Title: Lost a Drivers side Fiberglass Vent/Fairing ?
Post by: Jimmy on February 17, 2021, 09:49:45 pm
So after purchasing my 1997 U295 in Mid December, today I finally drove it out of its former home. I couldn't believe how nice the coach ran !!  Smooth, quiet, with plenty of power to go down the road at 70 mph, faster than I wanted go. two issues tho,
#1 tach was bouncing all over the place, obviously not operating properly, and #2, when I arrived at my destination, after another walk around,  the small fiberglass scoop ? air vent, intake, or whatever it is on the ds rear of the coach in the middle of the body was missing !  Completely gone , off , have no idea where I lost it. I back tracked with no success.

Does anyone have an extra or know where I can purchase another ? Im concerned  bc the year of the coach, it may no longer be available !!

If your talking about the dryer vent cover, I think I got my replacement at Lowes or Home Depot.

Nope, thats not it. Its a custom fiberglass body panel, around 12 x 12  Painted to match the coach. It looks like an air intake duct .. Kinda like a sideways mounted hood scoop. lol must have been glued on or siliconed idk but was attached when I left and missing when I arrived

Looking at your coach in the pic, its at the end of the middle wide stripe at the back

Must be your refrigerator vent. Let's you in to the backside of the fridge. Foretravel should have them. That's where I got my replacement several years back.

All the way at the rear of the coach?  That wouldn't be a fridge vent panel.

I'm a little confused as usual. The only vent left would be for the cooler at the back and I thought it was aluminum.

I think he's referring to the body piece at the end of the stripes where the end cap meets the side walls.

Jimmy,

On a '97 295 that was a swap over year for the engines.  If this is an early year coach it could be the tach. sensor at the fly wheel going bad.  If the wire to this sensor is loose and flopping around check the plug to see if it is loose or you have a frayed wire right where it comes out of the main engine wire loom.

Don't the late 90's models have some kind of fake side vents/scoops at the rear end on both sides?  I found a old thread where they were being discussed, but no photos.  Read Reply #7 and the next few comments in the thread below:

Yes it's a fake air vent.

Thank You everyone for your input. Message #7 is correct. Thats exactly what and where it is. I finally reached Foretravel Parts dept. today, and had to order another one, looks REAL bad without it. There's no hiding the void/gap where it mounts. I just hope bodyshop can match the existing paint scheme. The side stripes painted on the side of each of them go right over them.
As far as the tach is concerned, I will check the wiring as you mentioned, the last owner told me he didn't want to spend the money on replacing the tach, but I strongly feel it is a loose wire or bad sensor. Makes more sense bc the tach is in fact responding to the rpm's , just extremely erratic.

Next thing Im working on, I ordered all new air bags, not sure of shocks yet, and have to replace the tires with dry rot on sidewalls. Was considering Yokohama Tires, or Daytons since thats whats on it now. Currently 295's , but placard says 280's ? Any feedback on that topic ???

When we painted our coach, we had Xtreme remove both fake scoops.

Just curious, what would one expect to pay for a repaint on my 40 foot coach, with minimal bodywork required ?  Its already been done once before and looks respectable but down the road , who knows ?  lol
