Title: Can 1995 U300 be lifted up without starting
Post by: Rocky1down on March 11, 2021, 11:23:06 am
We are trying to run a new fuel line through the compartments and having trouble getting it through behind the water heater. Is there anyway the levelers will work without starting the motor?
He didn't lift it high enough before they disconnected the fuel line.
Thanks Susan

You can fill the tank through the onboard air hose with a male to male adaptor and portable air compressor.

Please don't forget to put your blocks in by each airbag before crawling under the coach. !

Do as Craneman suggests.  On my 2001 connecting air to the aux air connection from an external compressor will let you raise the coach or level it but if the check valves are working no air goes into either service tanks.  Might be different on yours.  If it does or does not it will not be dry air.  You can get a small in-line water separator to help with that.

We tried hooking a compressor up and it didn't let the levelers lift it up

Maybe you have hydraulic jacks?  Air won't help.  The leveling system, if yours raises and lowers using the air bags,  need the ign on (engine does not need to be on) to work.

Then you will have to tee into the input of the air dryer to get to the air tank for the levelers. Don't know why yours is different than my '99 as I can fill the leveling tank with the air hose.

I don't get it. These old rigs are all about the same. You make up a male to male connector, connect it at your air port, set your compressor to 120 or so and let her rip. You should see the front and rear air gauges on your dash rise and after a couple of minutes your air dryer will purge. At least, that's my experience. Here's a photo of my little air connection gizmo (don't need the gauge) as well as the location of the air connection on a 95 40' 300.

Thanks all, we finally got it to raise up. Got the new fuel line stuck trying to feed it through.
Finally got it unstuck and now we are back to square one.
We are having heavy rain right now so probably won't try again till tomorrow.

Please remember stretching or slightly kinking the new fuel line can weaken and damage it.  Best if it gets stuck or kinks, slowing you down, do not force, and move it back and forth lightly to free it up.  I remember having to do this several times, from bay to bay, even jiggling other nearby lines to free up the new replacement line.  For me the hardest area was thru from the basement bay to the transmission/engine path.  Best of luck, you will be fine.

Here is the super easy way of installing any kind of hose, coax, HDMI, etc. I installed HDMI and coax plus a fuel line in our coach. It makes the hardest job easy. I used it to bring a HDMI cable from the front of the coach to almost the back by myself. You take the fuel line and push it into the same size expandable braided vinyl sheathing. If it seems too small, as you push the end with the hose, it will expand. This makes a nice tight protective cover and is super slick. It also keeps it from kinking. I put the cable inside the loom with it stretching from the back to the front inside the coach. I fed it down, got underneath and started feeding it around all the obstacles. With it in a straight line above in the coach. it pulled easily and when I got back to where the bathroom is but underneath, I was still able to pull it easily.

Since it makes the fuel line slightly stiffer besides being slippery, it does not hang up on corners, provides abrasion resistance, etc. Good for installing large electrical cables if you use welding cable as it makes them less likely to sag like they normally do.

It comes in black or with other colors woven into it so you can have one line black/green and the other black/red for instance. Rodents don't seem to like it either as they had eaten the first cable I installed.

If worried about any fire danger, I use the fire resistive type in aircraft engine compartments. Flame retardant type at: Fire Resistant Wire Sleeve | Braided Wire Sleeving - Cableorganizer.com (https://www.cableorganizer.com/fireretardant/)  Photos of my installation can be shown if interested.

Forgot to say that if it's something like a HDMI cable, you can expand the braid and the cable and larger fitting will go in the expanded braid and then close up after it passes.

For temp use, wrap the loose strands at the end with electrical tape. For permanent installations, use shrink tubing.

We had a guy stop by last night who is a diesel mechanic. He managed to get the fuel line through and hooked up.
It now starts right away.
Thanks for all the help!
