Title: Checking clear coat
Post by: ricker on March 26, 2021, 01:04:19 pm
Has anyone had their clear coat fixed from the checking of the clear coat on coaches.
I see there was a few years the clear coat checked on Foretravels
Im looking at one that is checked.
What is the fix for this?? Do we have to sand it all off ?
Thank You Rick Maddox

They didn't have paint in your year coach just decals.

What year coach?

Not aware of issues with the clear coat, but there was definitely an issue with fiberglass, as I recall.  Let me try to dig up some of the posts.

I can't speak to FTs.  Our previous coach, a Monaco had very weathered and checked clear coat.  I sanded it with 220 sandpaper until the finish was an even translucent, and sprayed it with this.

Amazon.com: Spraymax 3680061 2K Clear: Automotive (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B0043B7UQY/ref=twister_B08W85V1L2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1)

Sanding takes a lot of time.  Plan on wasting a can of the clear coat.with experimentation.  Allow for seams at character lines and panel joints.  Protect everything else from overspray.

This took our previous coach from very yuck to about 80-90 percent.  I was very pleased with the results.

Would have a professional shop, such as Xtreme, weigh in on it based on Rudy's experience with one:

On our U225 the finish is Gel coat and not any sort of paint.
