As much as I would have loved to have the stain glass in one of my van conversions back in the 90's, it just kept bugging me.
Nothing against those that like their stained glass, and I think it is beautiful, and well done. For me, it just dated the interior.
I saw this picture of a cabinet door with metal inserts, and couldn't get it out of my head. Everytime I play cards, those stain glass doors were staring me in the face.
Finally found this metal at Lowes for $32.00. Just enough to do all 5 doors. I never realized there was plastic mirrors behind the stain glass. So for a nice affect, I used it behind the perforated metal. Then backed that with cardboard. And now as a by product, it looks like our microwave. Black stainless.
We are really happy, and it made the interior look 24 yrs younger. Cheap fix.

P.S. The picture in the store is the smaller sheet. The bigger one was $32.00
Chris, that really looks great! I have looked at that stuff myself and have thought about putting it in where my vented cabinet doors are for the TV electronics.
Thanks for the idea. My cabinet above the drivers left, has our Satellite receiver. That would work and tie it all in.
Chris
That's where mine are also but I have two cabinets with the louvers plus one in the bedroom for those electronics. It's on my list now!
Chris, I don't think you thought this all the way through. Let's see, playing cards facing mirror, other players back to mirror, hmmm. Just sayin'.
Looks great. Just don't think it will work on our tambourin "doors".
You do know that the walnut panels on the fridge doors are removable...and could be replaced with something else.........
Shhhhh....You figured it out...But she doesn't know about the lower mirror that's still there....LOL
But I love those panels...
Chris
The prior owner of our coach replaced the leaded glass with plain mirrors, for a cleaner look. Just another idea, but I like yours also.
I like it! It looks really good. One of my doors on the overhead has something similar for ventilation I suppose. Nothing in there now that needs ventilation so it must have been several owners ago. I too I'm not really crazy about this artificial stained glass look. Thought about putting some real stained glass in at some point but the weight might be an issue. Yours looks nice and clean and ventilates well. Although in that cabinet above the small table I call the coffee bar is my liquor bar.
By the way if you don't like those gold knobs krylon oil rubbed bronze paint does wonders for that. I felt that that was very dated too very 90s.
Carefull, don't toss em. You know everything comes back in style.
There are mirrors behind leaded glass. Anyone can take the leaded glass out, and just use the (plastic) mirror. Just need to fill in with panel board or cardboard.
Chris
I will be in the grave by then....LOL
My disco clothes still haven't come back in style yet, nor has my bell bottoms..... ;D
