Title: HWH Level Sensing Unit
Post by: Rick & Julie on April 15, 2021, 06:52:46 pm
I am trying locate the HWH level sensing unit. I have been told it is located in the basement near the center of the coach, possibly enclosed. I have yet to find it. Any ideas?

It could be under the bottom drawer by the sink or under the couch

jor, I think you are going to win the award for taking the most and best pictures when you do anything.  I have done a lot of projects on the last 4 FT that I have owned and I bet I do not have pictures of only a few of them and the pictures are pretty skimpy or only 1 or two somewhere along the way to help me remember how it came apart.

Thanks found it. The direction arrow on the top is pointed towards the left rear of the coach. Is this correct? Or should it be pointed towards the rear center of the coach?

It is my understanding that the arrow should be pointed to the rear and aligned parallel with the centerline of the coach.  I think this is logical so the 4 electrical contact points inside the sensor can distinguish between front/rear and left/right.

The diagram below does not actually verify my theory (about the arrow being parallel to centerline), but the sensor seems to work fine mounted in that manner on our coach.

Here it is on my present coach. It's pointed toward the rear. (Another photo, TurboJack!)  ;D  ;D  ;D

If the old style mercury level sensor is moved or repositioned for any reason, be careful when remounting.  You want the sensor to "float" on the partially compressed springs.  If the mounting screws are tightened down too much, the springs will be completely compressed (coil bound) and rendered ineffective.  Just leave a little play in the mounting screws so the sensor has space to move on the springs.

For more info on the different level sensors used by HWH over the years, see paragraph 2-13 in the document linked below:

There is also some info in our ForeForums WiKi:

This reminds me, I need to re-set mine.  It is also under the kitchen drawers.

For those who have not re-calibrated their level sensor:

Manually level the coach.  I use a long carpenter's level

With the system on, adjust the sensor until all the lights go out.

Level it in automatic leveling.  Fine tune if needed.

You might want to do like I did.
I couldn't get coach level, so I lifted up the seat portion of the couch and saw, to my surprise and amazement, that some dumbass (no names here please) had put a box up against the sensor that disrupted functioning. It will never happen again! I made and screwed a protective enclosure around the sensor and now no worries.

I did the same.

Thanks to all! I remounted the sensor so the arrow is parallel with the rear of the coach.

Do you mean with the arrow parallel with the LONG AXIS  of the coach and POINTED to the rear?

Yes, that is correct.

Anyone have an idea on where the Level Sensor may be on a 2001 36' ?
I have looked under the fridge, under the sofa, under the slide out pantry, and under the stove, still looking !

Reply #1 and Reply #8 (above) on similar year coaches it was located under one of the bottom drawers in the kitchen area.

Could possibly be mounted to the "ceiling" in one of your storage bays.  Start looking in the most central bay and work towards both ends.

Mark,

On your '01 the coach may be new enough to have the pendulum system.  If so it will be hid in a box with a Lexan cover in the basement next to the slide out control box.
