Title: tank water leak
Post by: denzi.hb@verizon.net on April 25, 2021, 12:55:58 pm
My 1999 U295 started leaking fresh water.  I checked all of the fittings and finally decided it is the tank.  Does anyone know how to pull the fresh water tank out?

Using the excellent Forum Search Tool (highly recommended) I found a post by Don detailing his efforts to remove the water tank from his '99 U270.  Don is one of the most talented and capable fabricators in this group.  The fact that he had a difficult time getting his tank out should not be taken lightly.  You should exhaust every possible way of locating (and correcting) the water leak, before you resort to pulling the tank.

It seems like every year and model of coach is setup and plumbed a little differently.  For example, my fresh tank goes most of the way across my wet bay and is positioned forward of my black and gray tanks which sit right and left behind the fresh tank.

Basically, you will need to de-panel the water bay (probably both sides) to see where your fresh tank is located and then start taking things apart to get to it.

Once you de-panel, you might find the leak is not the tank but perhaps some loose connections behind the panel, and the fix might be easier than a tank replacement.

If you do a little searching on the forum, you will find threads on rebuilding the wet bay and perhaps tank replacement.  They might even match your configuration.

Denzi, you might want to do one more check before pulling the tank.  Do you have a fresh water hose reel ?
I was positive my tank was leaking, checked every fitting, every line, etc., swore it must have been leaking somewhere from the tank.

At the last minute, just before pulling the tank, read on this Forum about the check valve in the line going bad.  Put a 98 cent cap on my water hose...........problem solved, leaked stopped !

I have since replaced the check valve with no more issues.  May be worth a shot for you.

If you have to pull the fresh tank because it is leaking then you better check for water in the basement floor structure.  Once water gets in there it has nowhere to go and just starts rusting stuff.

And if you do pull it have an overflow pan fabricated then includes the pump and all of the plumbing. Have it trap any overflows or leaks and drain through the floor.  As long as you are in there pull the waste tanks and do the same for them.  The entire wet bay should be protected against any overflows or leaks.  Lots of work, one time.

I had a leak also. What I found was that the water lines to the hot water tank was leaking on the back of the W/H. Check them from the 5 inch round hole in the bay forward of the H/W tank. Mine was the fittings leaking so I replaced the cone gaskets in the fittings and that fixed my problem. Good luck, I hope it is something simple.
Just my two cents
