Title: Co-pilot Seat
Post by: Catherine on April 25, 2021, 05:28:57 pm
We have a 1995 U320 with the extra-wide co-pilot seat.  I find it extremely uncomfortable.  I have to stuff cushions beside me to keep me from sliding around.  I am very short and my feet don't reach the floor so I always have the footrest elevated.  I find there is not enough support for my knees and after a long drive I can barely walk.  I have tried stuffing a pillow behind my legs but it didn't help much.  Does anyone have any solutions for this?

the larger seat with the leg rest in more common to the 320. perhaps
someone with a 295 or 270 would be willing to trade for the larger seat.
such a trade happened in quartzsite about 5 or 6 years ago.

Catherine,

The big co-pilot "buddy" seats are a popular option, but clearly don't suit every body type.  If you ever have the opportunity to visit the factory, get together with Dave Flanagan and see if he has any of the standard size co-pilot seats stashed away in his used parts room.  If so, he would be happy to do a swap with you (plus or minus cash depending on condition of seats).

Of course, another solution is simply replacing the factory seat with a aftermarket model.  Flexteel makes some very nice seats.

I am limited with what I can do right now.  We are in Canada so trips to Texas are out of the question at the moment.
We have only encountered 3 other Foretravels in our travels in the US and none in Canada.
Our travels are mostly in the eastern US: New York and Pennsylvania or Florida.

FYI Flexsteel exited the RV furniture business last year.  Flexsteel Announces Exit from RV Furniture Business - RVBusiness - Breaking... (https://rvbusiness.com/flexsteel-announces-exit-from-rv-furniture-business/)

Unclear if there is any support for "leftover" inventory at retailers.

OK - good information.  I hadn't heard about that.  We've always been happy with our seats, so don't follow that market.

So, for Catherine's benefit, who else makes good quality RV replacement (upgrade) captains chairs?  That are sold in Canada.

Villa makes excellent quality RV furniture, not sure about shipping to Canada though.

Catherine,

We solved the sliding around problem with a nice bath mat with a non slip backing and plush top put on the seat..    On long trips we have a lightweight plastic step stool for her feet.  It fits with the seat all the way back or with the step cover closed.

I replaced both captains chairs that were mismatched,  full of cat claw holes, and uncomfortable with Villa International captains chairs. Call Mike at Villa, he handles Foretravel.  Pricey but woth it imo. I waited 3 months for them I guess.

We got some nice Flexsreel  chairs from Recpro. Our 94 Grandvilla had flex steel chairs so it was a pretty easy change out.

Look at seats used in semi trucks. You can get almost any feature. Seats less is one seller. Many truck stops might have showrooms with seats. Just Google and look.
