My AC compressor is making some serious noise when the clutch kicks in (not all the time) that's why I think it's the clutch.
Is this the number to reference for a new clutch?
Thanks
Frank
It could be the compressor. Try turning the compressor by hand.
Dash ac works, and cools so do I still need to turn the compressor by hand?
See if there is possibly any oil on the clutch and could the noise be from the belt?
I would think if it was the belt ( which is new) that it would make the noise all the time and that the noise would be from a loose belt. Is that correct or am I wrong.
Belt noise will be different than clutch or bearing noise Frank.. The unit may still cool while making noise but it will still fail as in seize up and cause a potential added problem you will want to avoid.
Now the question is........was the noise there BEFORE the new belt?
No noise before new belt.
After I replaced belt there was no noise while I looked at the belt with engine running, but did not have AC on at that time
With the A/C on there is a pulsing resistance from the compressor. Check for slap with the A/C on, the belt might just need tightening.
Any chance you can face time with one of us so we can hear the noise, may be helpful.
If the problem started after you changed something, that's where I would start. Granted, it may not be the belt but it is curious.
First I would spray some belt dressing on the belt after properly tightening it, and if that didn't help I'd try a completely different belt.
I I'll try to tighten the belt tomorrow. If I go to town I'll get another belt and replace it. I'll report my findings.
Thanks everyone for the input
Frank
Or maybe loosen it? It might be too tight.
How much play should I have on the belt
1 in 1 1/2 won't hurt
Is that 1" - 1.5 " pushing in on the belt between the compressor and Fly wheel on the engine
Yes
