Title: Accelerator pedal hits the wall
Post by: Dan & Annie on May 26, 2021, 08:28:23 am
Have 4,000 miles on our '98 U295, and we're just noticing that the accelerator pedal perhaps does not have full range of motion. It hits the wall in front when fully depressed, preventing it from moving further. Should it be able to go all the way? Here's a Video (https://youtu.be/IPJJXiOKgsU).

So the peddle is screwed to the floor. You could move to clear the wall or bend the ramp in the back up to get full range of the potentiometer. It may make a difference. Have you ever noticed it pulls better when using the cruise control?

Likely the accelerator was located too far forward when carpet was replaced.  Easy to move back far enough to clear.

And, it is not firmly screwed down to the floor-- you can see it moving. If the the carpet/padding will not allow a firm attachment, I would remove the carpet and padding 1/2" or so inboard of the footprint of the pedal base and make a plywood shim so that you can hard mount it (but, it would still appear that the carpet goes under it).

Here's where mine is located. I think I would do as Brett suggests. Just unscrew it and move it back an inch or so. You can locate it anywhere that's comfortable for you.

Disconnect from power. Connect a volt/ohm meter to the petal.  Move it through the motions and see what is says.  Could be at 100% where it stops at and moving it further will do nothing.

The screws / lag bolts that is holding it down do not look tight.

In my last 97 I never notice the difference between foot petal and cruise but I do not remember flooring it very much.

Now on my IH, when I restore the cruise it will go full power to get to set speed.  When I drive with foot I do not push it to the floor very often.

It's true, the screws into the floor are very loose. I think I'll just pull them all, move the plate back 3/4 inch, and screw them all down tight. Then we'll see if this baby can get from zero to 60 in less than 2 minutes.
