Title: low water pressure in shower ONLY?
Post by: Kiwitex on May 31, 2021, 09:44:25 am
I searched and found nothing on this particular problem so maybe I used the wrong parameters but here we go.
We have been on the road for 3 weeks now, most things going well and solutions found for most problems so far. But 2 days ago the water pressure in the shower dropped to nearly nothing. The faucets still work fine, the pump is operating, no difference from tank or shore supply, just the shower doesn't flow. I have checked the tank fill valve, it is fully closed.
Any thoughts & suggestions?

Try removing the shower head and soaking it in vinegar to remove deposits.

When you have head off check flow without head.

Don't forget about the shower backflow preventer getting clogged with deposits:

Where does one find this back flow preventer?

Backflow valve is in shower.  It can be unscrewed and cleaned out.  It is the cylinder just below the 90 degree elbow.

I learned something new today!

Is there any concern with removing the backflow valve permanently?

Yes - you can suck things back into the fresh water lines.  It's designed to only let water out, not in.

Normally, there wouldn't be the chance to do this, but say you left the shower head on the floor of the shower, washed a dirty dog or rinsed off shoes or something, then picked the shower head back up.  Anything that might have gotten in the shower head could possibly (yes remote, but not impossible) drain back and contaminate the fresh water.

Many thanks for all the helpful responses, it was a combination of the shower head and the backflow preventer being gunked up.
A good soaking in CLR seems to have fixed the issue.
I really appreciate the learning this group provides, there is so much of it to learn!
