Title: Towed? Drive shaft issue.
Post by: Protech Racing on June 01, 2021, 02:42:46 pm
I had a vibration sometimes from the drive shaft , or at least at drive shaft speeds.  Pulled  the shaft out and  one of the clamped on caps fell apart at the trans end.
All of the bolts were not very tight .  I was very careful when removing it and it appears that it has been missing a needle or two for a while .
So, if you get towed and the shaft is pulled , verify that it is installed correctly, Or do it yourself.

Moral of the story should be to always pull axles, never the driveshaft. Always the possibility of expensive damage when you do allow anyone close to your driveshaft.

And how are your going to get it verified?

The shaft is 12in long. I dont see any balance weights on it or places that had weights.
The part # is Spicer A5, series 1550.      4.967 long with 4 pins of 1,1/8in.

FWIW this has not been towed in the last 24K miles.  Just always had a off and on little shake at 65MPH .
