Title: Welding checklist
Post by: Geodmann on June 10, 2021, 08:11:08 am
Can anyone provide the welding checklist?  I see links to it in many posts that take you to "allthingsforetravel" but that page can't be found.  Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Totally lost,do you mean what to do when you weld on a Foretravel?

If you are talking about welding on the steel frame of the coach, repairing a shock mount or reinforcing the tow bar for example, at a minimum you need to disconnect the batteries and keep the welding ground connected close to the point of welding. And make sure you are careful with fire safety.

At the least, remove both the positive and negative battery cables from both battery  banks. Unplug the coach from shore power. Additionally keep your welding ground as close to your work as possible.

The "welding checklist" I'm referring to is here: http://beamalarm.com/Documents/welding_checklist.html, except that that link is no longer valid.  I understand the need to disconnect negative battery cables but apparently this document goes farther and talks about disconnecting the ECU, the Allison control module and other steps.  Sounds daunting and I don't want to inadvertently fry any valuable electronics.  It's mentioned in so many old posts that I thought for sure someone on here would have a copy.

I see the list says everything but the most important thing is the welding ground
right beside where you are welding.

Just posting what is in link so it doesn't get lost in future. This is both more and less than what I do. I do recommend no aluminum hi frequency welding.

Anytime I weld on a vehicle, I just clamp the ground right next to where I'm going to weld. No troubles in quite a few years.
