Title: manual or electric oil change pump
Post by: Lt403 on June 17, 2021, 09:25:05 am
good morning everyone,
does anyone use a manual or electric oil change pump to change the oil in the engine?
I know about the fumoto and no spill drain plugs but was curious about using one of these.
does the pump draw out all the fluid or is there always some left? how about any debris that might be at the bottom of the pan that gets flushed out when you drain it from the bottom.

thanks
frank

I've always preferred to drain conventionally to remove any loose deposits. I've had boats that were near impossible to drain so I installed drain hose extensions so as I could put out the bilge  drain plug and release oil. The pump will never IMO remove all the oil. That being said you can't drain anyway completely. I probably would go with a electric that can run dry or cavatating without damage. Could also tilt coach towards dip stick to aid drawing fluid out.
