Title: AC outlet diverter
Post by: WS6_Keith on June 21, 2021, 06:58:58 pm
Both of the AC units share the ducting, but there are only two ducts in the bedroom.  Even with both running, the bedroom doesn't seem to get nearly as cool as the front of the coach.  At night, I've been closing all of the vents except the bedroom and that has helped.

I've read and seen videos that say you shouldn't necessarily leave the main outlet of the AC's open to dump straight down...something about the intake pulling in the outlet cool air and then freezing up.  The rear AC outlet is just outside of the bedroom, in the bathroom area.  Has anyone seen/found/built a diverter for the main air outlet of a Dometic Penguin AC?  I'd love to have a little scoop that would direct that air into the bedroom (90* out) instead of straight down.  This would also direct it away from the intake.

On my Dometics, I can close the vent outlet that goes straight down from the unit and everything goes through the ducts.  Then I close down the front ducts if I want more cold in the bedroom.

If we want cool in the BR at night we run the front AC with most of the LR vents closed and all but one in the bathroom.  It doesn't happen often, we put in a ceiling fan in the BR 10 years ago and it makes a huge difference. Very close to the ceiling fans don't blow down very well so reverse the fan and the air moves up and down the outsides of the bedroom.

I wonder if you could add a second set of vents in the BR?

We have the ceiling fan as well.  It helps some.  I'd just like to pre-cool the bedroom with the full volume of the rear AC since it's right there.  Once it's cooled off, it's easier to keep cool.  Hard to do any of that when it's 115* out though.

Have some time to modify this?

The 2 direct vents on the Furrion ACs that we just put in point forward and to the rear.  If you just opened the one pointing into the bedroom most of the output would go there.
