On the way home from an RV tinker week with another Forum member our D2 decided to give up the ghost a block from the barn. We stopped in the church parking lot and proceeded to give it an attitude adjustment with a hammer to be able to make the block and down the driveway. So all tucked away off to the parts store to get a new governor.
Now here is the important info you need to know. Got a factory new not a reman. and opened it up to install and find out the mounting base is a different thickness. Rather than it being 2 & 1/4" thick the new one is 1 & 13/16" as you can see in the pics. So off to the parts store and find all the "new" units in stock are this thickness. So back to the barn and pull the spare D2 out of my parts bin and it is the thinner one also. The only thing about this is the old bolts are too long and will bottom out long before they tighten up. The bolts for the thick mounting are 3' long and the new ones need to be 2 &1/2" long. So the moral to this story is if you have a spare D2 in the basement check the thickness of the mounting plate as you may need to have 2 new mounting bolts also and now not all D2 governors are the same.

Thanks Mike good tip!
In a pinch, could you use a stack of washers under the "long" bolts to make them work with the thinner mounting base?
or a dremel.
@ Chuck, Shure would work
@ Twig, I was thinking the same thing if it had happened in a rest area.
Mike
Have Dremel
Will travel
what is the diameter of the bolts needed?
5/16'' x 18 TPI on our compressor.
