Title: How to interpret air filter minder?
Post by: Dan & Annie on July 16, 2021, 02:07:28 pm
How do I read this gauge? What does it mean?

When the yellow reaches the red it's time to change the air filter. I've never seen one that works great.

And, the air filter minder is just one reason for changing the engine air filter.

Filters also age out-- 3-4 years is about all you can count on with a high degree of reliability.

If the filter element gets wet-- its life "with a high degree of reliability" is pretty much over.

The filter minder can also fail.  EASY to test.  Just remove the vacuum hose from the air filter end.  Suck on it. That should peg the air filter minder and it should hold that reading.  Push the release button on the air filter minder to reset it to zero.

But if the filter minder right now says it's at let's say 50%, and I test then reset it, it goes back to zero and I lose the 50% reading? Or I suppose that would that come back up soon after I start the coach up again...

It would come back the next time you have a load on the engine. Not at idle.

Yup, first time you demand maximum air flow (i.e. WOT at higher RPM) it would restore the max vacuum reading.

Don't forget to check the air hose going into the filter to not be blocked several have been and the filter minder will never get a indication other than a new "unused" unoperated filter. Hose will be restricted but should still flow air going into/out of the filter housing..

Your filter minder may have been replaced so know the numbers for your engine. They are not the same for our different brands. Proper numbers are in our archives.
