Title: Gentech runs 30sec then dies
Post by: Mobius on July 16, 2021, 02:54:44 pm
So of course on the road and now dry camping. Isuzu engine on the gentech runs for about 30secs the shuts down, over crank light comes on. Reset fault light on dash and you can do it all over again. Any ideas? It's like it's not getting fuel, electric fuel pump is running, fuel seleniod shut off maybe?
PS always ran great at home!

What do your fuel lines look like at the generator fuel pump? Cracked damp?

All fuel lines were replaced three years ago. Run time on the engine is about 2 hours since, really don't use it much mostly at home during check/startup where it will run for 10-15 minutes every month or so. Fuel solenoid is warm to the touch after it runs not sure if that's normal. Although I assume it has power to it when engine is running.

Eric, similar situation today. Last trip was to Williams Az a few weeks ago. On the way home needed to run gen for ac, got stopped on I-40 for a fatal collision. Once we got moving again I looked down and saw the red fault light was on on the gen and it was not running. We were going to stop for fuel in about 40 miles so I'd check it out then. Gen panel had no fault codes lit so I flipped breakers and reset button. Gen restarted and ran no problem the rest of the way home. Today I needed to move the coach to use my
vehicle lift I park under in the carport. While changing oil on the car I thought I heard the gen running on the coach. When I backed the coach into the car port the gen stopped all by itself. I got out and checked for faults, nothing. oil and water levels good. started gen and it ran fine for about 30-60 seconds and stopped again. Noted cooling fan ran fine also. Head scratcher! This happened 3 times more then it started again on its own then stalled after 30-60 seconds.  I always think back to what was done last in the area of the failure. I had replaced the Magnum auto gen start about 2-3 months ago, went to that green ready light was on indicating it was ok. I disconnected it and now gen is running with ac's on as I write this I'll let it run with ac's for a few hours and see what happens. This tells me the auto gen start may be the problem. Any ideas?

I'm the same way what happened before the big event because everything was fine before. Two things the rig went to my mechanic for service he's good and he asked about servicing the Genny. I said not to because it has little hours on it. The other is right before I started the Genset I had the inverter on using the microwave. It was straining so I started the Genset, it fired right up than about 30 sec later died. I bled one of the banjo fittings off the top of the fuel filter and was pure diesel so I Know fuel is getting that far. Might replace the fuel shut off solenoid for starters.

Here's one other thing my hearing is shot so the wife pointed this out, after about 20 seconds running time there's a loud hissing noise or like a fan grinding, stops runs about ten more seconds does the noise again then the engine dies. Noise is coming from upper left behind generator.

I had the same problem with my Isuzu. Engine would quit after 30 seconds and no fault lights.
Ended up being a bad low oil pressure switch. Try bypassing the switch and see what happens.

Update: the Heart Interface panel was showing a E-10 code, reset panel and ran the genny for about 5 minutes with no issues. We'll see if that's what the problem was. Thanks for all the input.
