Title: Gen Fault Question
Post by: floridarandy on July 21, 2021, 05:03:39 pm
100+ degrees in Billings Montana as we wait in the lot for Cummins service. Benny has run for 4 days straight for AC.

We're moving to a hotel today and I shut the AC down and let the Genny run for 5 minutes to "cool down". Hit dash rocker to turn off but no off.  Tried a few more times then held rocker down. Genny shut down but red fault lite came on.

Didn't note any lights on outside Genny panel.

Ideas?

I would suspect heat-related failure of the control switch on the panel of the genset itself. You could test the one- or two- Control switches to see if they have integrity.

Must have been a hot weather anomaly. Back to coach next day and normal start and stop function.

So there must be something going on with generator start/stop switch. Generator will not start with inside toggle or outside square start/prime/stop switch. I can start generator using the generator control on our Victron GX panel but once started it will only turn off using the "Master" Toggle switch in the front of the generator, not the dash switch or the square start/prime/stop push button. Once stopped if I flip the Master switch  "On" generator will start but still not respond to square button on generator , dash rocker switch or GX command...only the Master on/off.

Do you have a generator start /stop switch in bedroom?
If so try that and see what happens.

Thanks, but our 34' U270 has only the dash switch.

At this point I am assuming it's the latching relay. I can turn it in and off with the main switch on the front of the generator and will address the relay when we get home in November.
