We have developed a crack in the outer glass of our windshield. It runs from the left drivers side along the curved portion from bottom to top. The crack is offset at the bottom and moves to non discernible with finger nails at the top. Actually does not effect my vision at all. I cannot find any evidence of rock damage. I have tried to call the repair shops, all are closed here in Santa Fe until Monday. My dilemma is that we are scheduled to move to Eagle's Nest tomorrow and will be more isolated and stationary for the next two weeks, then we return to Texas. Will it be safe for us to drive this unit for a few hundred miles before replacing it? I am unable to stay in our current location. I welcome your opinions.
As soon as I figure out how, I will post a picture.
I wouldn't worry about it.
Ran mine with similar crack 10,000 miles. Got it fixed at FOT. They made a repair to the front cap where some adhesive had failed. Blue tape was to highlight break area for insurance purposes. FOT does not accept insurance payments. You pay them and submit the bill to your insurance company.
Thanks Old Guy, That was my gut feeling, confirmation is always good. By the way, I enjoyed your posts on Jake Brake.
Thanks, was the blue tape for ID?
Yes, I did the whole claim via email and phone. Tape was to help the adjuster to "see" the extent of the crack.
I would love to be able to lay our cracks on top of each other. Looks almost identical.'
I would get it replaced at your convenience and not rush into anything. I went nearly two years.
I drove about 200 miles with same crack based on description. No issues.

Be careful, ran mine cracked like that got it replaced, made it 200 miles before a stone chip😬😬😬😂
Right now neither windshield has a chip or peck. Just the crack on the left one. I will be checking to see how long ago the glass was replaced. I know it did not make 20 years without a peck.
I have a two piece windshield. There is rock damage near the center bottom. The crack runs up to the top and across about 1/2 of the bottom. I am running it for a while. Does not appear to hurt anything. Almost the same pattern as my pickup which I have run for three years now.
Hey Herb—
Long-time, no see. Since you didn't find a point of impact, is it possible the crack developed as a result of the poor condition of New Mexico's highway system? I-40 is in such bad shape I try not to drive it at night...the potholes could be registered as caverns.
Have a safe trip back. Glad to see you're still out and about.
