I looked in the archives and could not find an answer, so I thought I would give it a shot.
We have the old vertical pleat front shades that velcro to the windshield when closed. One of the monofilament lines that keep tension on it through the spring and pulley mechanism has broken. I have it apart, and the spring and pulley is all good. I just need to know what size line I need to replace it with.
I have some really light weight line on a rod and reel in the shed, but it is approx 1/3 the diameter.
Anyone have a clue?
Thanks,
Len
15 to 20lb. test mono would work ok.
Here are two posts with some info on the retractor supplier and part numbers

That's for side window day/night shades, not the fishing line retractors used on the front windshield Eclipse shade (and also used on the slide mechanism-hiding accordian shade)
I wanted to buy new shades. The company said they don't make my size. I said- custom make them- charge me extra. Their response was like giving extra change to a non-wrinkled cashier. They couldn't figure it out
Does FOT Parts not have any available?
I did go ahead and pick up some 12# mono. I wish I would have gotten 15, but it may have been even harder to feed through the hole in the pulley that it needs to go through before a knot.
The mechanism is pretty simple, but if you are ham handed like me it takes some real messing around to get it together. I was able to get the one line that had broken on the passenger side replaced, and the shade works well.
I'll try to do a write up and pix for the drivers side.
Thanks for everyone's help.
Len
Michelle and Ernie,
I did not contact FOT because I really did not need any parts. I knew that what I needed was 6-8 feet of line. The rest of the blinds were fine. If any of the springs / reels / housings were bad I would have contacted them.
Thanks again,
Len
Hey Len,
My comment about FOT parts was responding to Ernie about needing an entire new shade. I knew you were just looking for line and was hoping the Eclipse folks might have been able to help.
