Title: portable Direct TV tripod mount HD satellite system
Post by: cdm on September 11, 2021, 07:31:02 am
I am looking at portable Direct TV tripod mount HD  satellite systems similar to one shown on this Amazon link. Does anyone have any experience with these or recommendations on a better system? Thank you

I made/gathered the parts to make a similar setup.
What I see that should also be added components is a anchor screw (like is screwed into the ground to keep your dog home on a tether) and a strong bungee cord to keep the dish from blowing over.

I have used both DirectTV and Dish. I think Dish is more RV friendly. I use the King Dish Tailgater, it is a automatic locator, all I have to do is put it out side and pointed towards the south (must have a clear view of the sky) and it finds the satellites. I am lazy and it doesn't take up as much storage space.
Just my two cents
Good luck in finding what you like

Half the time I end up watching 4.00 movies bought out of a bin and I have roof top in motion as well as a tailgate carry out.. Seems to always be something hindering my viewing experience. Hope you have more success.

Unless you park for long periods, you will find this is a hassel, and a lot of stuff to carry around and store.

What if you just want to pop a TV channel on for a quick look at a rest stop.

What if you are stopping for just one night? Do you want to go through setting this up?

And yes, as Dub said, Dish is way more RV friendly with customers.

Lots of people that go the way of a portable setup, end up getting rid of it, or never using it.

Have you seen this:

Dish/Directv Winegard Automatic Satellite System (https://www.foreforums.com/index.php?topic=42950.0)

I also have a complete T4 Winegard inmotion, works with DTV or Dish

On a side note, a gallon jug of water hanging from this setup, with secure it.

Used a portable for 6 years, worked fine sitting on the ground, picknick table, whatever. On the roof of when parked for more than a few days. Never had a problem. No extra parts the carry.

For a long time, we had a Dish Tailgater. We usually put it on a table but it didn't need to be flat. Other than waiting a few minutes for it to find the satellites the first time in a location, it always worked perfectly. Good to put on the roof so no one can steal it.

Dish is definitely more RV-friendly.

We use a Tailgater with our LTV.  It's actually quick-mounted to the roof so no storage/carrying hassle and we can detach it if necessary to get better signal.  Amazon.com: KING MB700 Quick Release Roof Mount Kit for KING Tailgater and... (https://amzn.to/2Xups8u)

With our Foretravel, we carried a dual LNB Dish Network dish with a foldable arm, mounted on a TV4RV tripod for those locations where the roof Winegard Trav'ler was obstructed by something.
