A butiful day today in PA. So, I decide to put the awning out. Life is good. Hey, it's getting windy. Time to bring awning back in. Ooops, not happening. Fortunately, manual retract saves the day.
1 - Awning will extend from any retracted position with both the remote and with the momentary switch. But, it will not retract with either the switch or remote. I'm thinking controller has failed. Now, I need to find where the controller is. Most likely behind cabinet panel with momentary switch?
2 - Question: I'm assuming the motor for the Girard runs on 110V. But, I have no breaker for it in either of my breaker panels. So, is this awning set up to run off 12 volts?
It's always something. I love it!
I believe they are 12 volt.
Nope, 120 VAC. Check your Inverter breaker panel schematic page for your coach - likely the first breaker.
Going out but not retracting *might* be the current limiter for the motor. I believe Girard has done away with them. Let me do a quick forum check...

Mine is intermittent. Always goes out, but has only come in maybe 10% of the time. The current limiter has already been removed from mine as well. I'll just manually wind it in until I give in and do as Hatch did (2nd link above) and have Girard replace it with current technology.
Check the ground to the control unit. It's behind the back panel of the cabinet above the windshield on pass side.
It takes more power to go in vs go out so an iffy ground may work on the in OK. I made sure the ground was good a few years ago and no problems since then.
(110v so be careful)
"Most likely behind cabinet panel with momentary switch?"
Correct.
Just saw this thread. Im in a 2006 and my awning will only extend or retract when plugged into shore power. I haven't tried it with the generator. Ive also only owned it for 3 weeks so I have LOTS to learn. How do I manually retract it if I have to? Thanks in advance.
2006 Nimbus.
Eddie Nel,
The Girard awning only works with AC power.
To retract manually you need to have a handle which needs to be inserted in the Forward part of the awning by the door.
It is a type of bell housing
Thank you LT ill check into that. I have the handle for the manual awnings over all of the windows.
The Girard awning takes a different handle than the zip dees
I have had this issue as well. Bought a spare hand crank and mated it to a drill shank to make this less elbow grease intensive. See this thread: Girard awning not going in or out? Here's a solution (http://www.foreforums.com/index.php?topic=42272.0)
