Title: Turning radius on 38 foot???
Post by: Bulldogdiver on September 24, 2021, 02:51:36 pm
According to the Turning Radius info on All Things Foretravel, the turning radius for a 38 foot non tag coach with a 252 inch wheelbase is the only 4 inches more than a 36 foot coach with a 228 inch wheelbase.  Does the 38 foot non tag coach have a higher wheel cut angle?

It does not.

I vaguely recall those numbers coming from an old technical FAQ that was either on Foretravel's website or was published in the Motorcader magazine.  There's likely a typo in there somewhere, but there weren't many 38' coaches produced.

If you are considering one without a tag, watch out for CCC if it has a bedroom slide, especially if it's a U320 with the much heavier drivetrain.  The tag was added around 2003 because of weight concerns.

I don't know the specific turn radius our '04 295 38ft non-tag but I remember hearing that the wheel cut is actually different between right and left. Sorry don't remember which is which but I believe one is about 38 degrees.

A better turn radius is probably the top of the wish it were different  list.    I was in a campground with tight corners next to a new 45 ft SOB.  When we went to leave I planned my route very carefully while he just went for it and easily made an "S" turn that left me scratching my head.

Thank you for the replies.  I thought the information had to be incorrect.  Does anyone know what the wheel cut angle is on 2001-2005 Foretravels?

38 degrees except for the few IFS coaches FT built (2001 and 2002 if memory serves).  IFS coaches should be 55 degrees.

Most FT are beam axle on steer. IFS = independent front suspension.  Beam axle coaches have the two outboard air bags that give exceptional stability on the road.  As I understand it, IFS coaches have one  airbag (per side),  inboard.
