Title: Motor for copilot chair foot rest lift
Post by: bigdog on September 24, 2021, 11:40:30 pm
The motor on the copilots chair that raises and lowers the foot rest is not doing well. Thing is I'm not at the coach. Does anyone remember the standard maker of the seats in a 1998 U320. I think it's a Villa. But not sure.

Think the 98 is Flexsteel, may just be gummed up from dust and dirt.

Well, That would make sense as Flexsteel no longer makes RV furniture. Hopefully some of the common parts like motors, screw shafts are available should that be our issue. I'll give it a spray of silicone and see what happens.

BigDog,

If it is gummed up like many of ours have been it will take more thorough cleaning than just a spray of silicone.  On mine I used a popsicle stick and toothpicks to scrape out at least a tablespoon of hard congealed gunk.  It has worked wonderfully ever since.

Went out to the coach today. The Co-pilot chair is a Villa. Wiped off what i could. But the biggest ease on the motor came from lubing the guide rails. I'll have to go back and lube some more when I get a spray bottle that has a long straw. My little squeeze bottle wasn't cutting it in the tight spaces.

Seems the motor screw drive assembly isn't to awfully expensive at $90ish. likely a PITA to change though.

Villa International has a retro kit for the Villa Co-Pilot chair footrest.  It replaces the motor, transmission, screw drive and all parts needed.  Mine would start to extend and then stop.  A short wait and it would move a little more but never fully extend.  I thought motor but Villa said plastic gears in transmission were shot.  Parts not available any more so retro kit was my only choice.  It is a big PIA to replace but manageable.  The cost was about $200.00 for the kit.  You can call and talk to Mike, if I remember correctly, at Villa International, 562-404-8111.  Mine has worked fine since replacing.  Good luck!

A couple of years ago Foretravel parts had a replacement gear, call and talk to Brad about it. David Flannigan replace mine while I was in for some work.

The gear thing makes sense as the motor jumps around when extending and no issue on retraction.
