Title: SeeLevel Install
Post by: WS6_Keith on October 14, 2021, 01:26:09 pm
Finally got around to installing the SeeLevel setup, since I had the water reel removed for other issues.  I wanted to have one display in the wet bay and one in the interior.  Since our tanks are so tall, I would need 2 of the sensor strips per tank, so it worked out to purchase two of the Garnet SeeLevel 709 kits to get everything I needed.

Then I purchased a roll of 18/4 with colors similar to the wiring that came with the See Level kit.  ( 100 ft. 18AWG Low Voltage LED Cable 4 Conductor Black Sleeve In-Wall RGB... (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B089K4LBH6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) ).  Since I was having to re-wire for the new fresh water reel, I added an additional pigtail from that power/ground to power the SeeLevel system.  I then ran the 18/4 wire across the top of the black tank from the street side where the first monitor would be in the wet bay, to the curb side where I would access the end of the tanks for the sensor strips.

First I cleaned the end of the tanks with alcohol, then hit them with some 60-grit sand paper, then cleaned them with alcohol again.  Like others I have read on here, rather than using the adhesive on the back of the strips, I used Gorilla tape to mount the sensors, in case I needed to move them for calibration.  I used two of the standard ES strips for the black and gray tanks.  I cut 3 sections off of each strip to make it fit properly.

The fresh tank in my coach is "L" shaped at the curb side end.  The bottom section is about 8" tall and extends about a foot further than the rest of the tank.  The top portion of the tank is about 17" tall, so the ES strips would not work in this application.  After talking with Garnet, I decided to purchase two of the 17" SS strips for the fresh tank.  The top strip was used at full length and the bottom strip was cut to 7", the minimum length.  Even though these are the maximum difference, and separated as mounted to the tank, they work perfectly.

I also wired the SeeLevel into the LPG sensor wires and that also works correctly.

The last step will be to fish a wire down from the cabinet over the microwave, into the basement and tie into the rest of the system.  I left four open butt connectors for this, off the main wiring harness.  That will have to wait until after our trip this weekend.

Keith I'm installing the SeeLevel system in my 2004 and the tanks look exactly like yours. I'm wondering about the black sensors position since the rinsing sprayer only leaves about 2 3/4" to the edge of the tank which would put the left side of the sensors pretty much at the curvature of the tank.
Have you had any issues with it as shown?
Thanks...

Thanks Keith, good to hear.  I'll go ahead and put it on like yours.

Can you video the install?

Well what should take half a day ended up taking a little over a week. I'm sure it has nothing to do with my age... But anyway it is all in place and appears to be functioning correctly.

The pictures that Keith posted above are very representative of my install in the tank area but I couldn't find an easy way to get the wires up on the passenger side. I have the hot water heater in front of the fresh water tank so that was different. Fortunately a previous owners had a hole and plug on the wall to provide access to the back of the heater that I used to install the senders on the fresh tank. My 36' 295 is a different configuration and I ended up installing the display in the bathroom under the sink next to the fan switch. Since my fresh water tank fill lever is in that compartment it is a good spot.

I'm afraid if I video'd my process it would be more of a comedy than useful but if there are any specific questions I'd be happy to share my experience.

I reused the factory wires for all tanks and the propane tank. made the installation very easy.

I did the same as Chuck.

I looked at that and found those wires but my dash doesn't have any flat area open. My radio and the rear camera screen take up both. With the fresh water valve under the bath sink it should work out well.
