Title: Residential fridge door latch
Post by: Elliott on October 28, 2021, 11:33:43 am
For those of you with the Samsung residential fridge, what're you using to keep the doors closed while driving? We have a leather strap with velcro for the fridge doors but the bottom freezer drawer is not secured.

I vaguely recall a plastic doohicus that someone was 3D printing and selling on Amazon for a while but I'm striking out on search here and Amazon.

Try the children's department at Walmart. They carry a few variations of devices that prevent little children from opening cabinet doors.

Link below to a post showing what we have used (with 100% satisfaction) for the past 6 years.  Read the rest of the posts in that same thread for several more ideas (including a link to the 3D printed item).  There's many perfectly valid answers to this question...just pick WMYH.

We had a strap that we had to run all around and it was a pain to install and remove.  If you had finished installing it and realized you forgot to get something our our put in, you would have to think if was really worth the time to undo and redue.

My wife found these on amazon and they work great.  Easy to snap and unsnap.  Have one on each side of freezer door and between refrig doors. She carries spares and give them to people when she sees them at a camp ground and complain about what they have.  We also have one on our shower door since the latch FT has installed does not seem to stay shut with my driving.

We use the Fridge Fixer. Works great. Available on Amazon and other places.

The PO installed a threaded hex on the bottom of my fridge and a "L" shaped bracket is installed to hold the freezer closed.  The french door handles are velcroed to each other to keep them closed.

I'm guessing you are talking about the Fridge Fixer.  I've looked at it, but didn't buy it myself.

Fridge fixer works perfectly

Thanks guys, the fridge fixer is what I was thinking of. I'm going to try the $6 kid's cabinet latch from Walmart before shelling out the $70 for the fridge fixer.

We have grandkids ages 4,3,2,1 and both sons have these latches on various drawers. They don't look like they would hold up, but theirs are used constantly and easy for adults to use. The only negative is that they are "always there" while other solutions can be hidden away when parked. You can leave them unhooked while parked and they are ready to go when you want to move.

Elliott, simple is best. Short velcro strap on the doors and a sliding door latch on the freezer drawer. Nothing to find a place to stow away when not in use. Never gets lost. In almost 7 years they have been perfect.

Do not drill any holes in your Samsung refrigerators, especially the doors. It has been said it can be a warranty issue.

My solution, rv storage compartment carpet on both sides to prevent scratches. Made from scrap piece of plywood.

Roger, what is the device in the lower pic?
Where can it be purchased?

Thx

Freezer latch is a patio door security latch. Common at Lowe's or HD. Different widths are available.  Where it mounts to the cabinet and freezer door determines size.

I put the latch on the freezer drawer with 3M VHB  tape. Cut to fit. Once on it is good. Clean the attachment spot with acetone. Don't use alcohol, it inhibits adhesion. They make a cleaner, adhesion promoter in small wipes like a glasses cleaner. They have these at Amazon.

I use this VHB tape. Good for most uses. I use it for solar panel mounts

I use this cleaner/prep

This will last a lifetime.

Look for the wipe on pads.

Get the fridge fixer! They sell on their website and Amazon.  Not cheap but they really work!  A guy makes them with his 3d printer.  We had one on the American Coach Whirlpool fridge and will be replacing the "lock" that came on our FT GE Cafe
