Title: 1996 Cummins 300 cruise control on warm up
Post by: dans96u295ft on November 21, 2021, 07:13:49 pm
I seem to not be able to set the cruise control while warming it up in the garage. Works fine on the road. It will advance if holding the switch but when I let go, it goes back to idle. I swear it used to work. I have the retarder off.

Dan, Did you try this sequence?

Push the ON/OFF button, then push the SET button.  It should then go to fast idle.  Push the ON/OFF again, then back to normal.
Parking Brake on and Transmission in Neutral.

That should do it.

On mine (97 8.3) the sequence is:
1. On button;
2. Set button;
3. Resume and hold to desired rpm;
4. Release to maintain that rpm;
5. Touch brake pedal or off button to resume normal idle.

Has to have >80 lbs of pressure in the tanks to work if it's a Bendix.
