Title: GAWR Axle Ratings
Post by: Rudy on December 21, 2021, 06:24:36 pm
On my 2001 U320 42 foot coach the GAWR ratings for each axle are as follow:

Steer  13,880
Drive  21,000
Tag      Blank

Does anyone know the GARW for the tag?

The ride of this coach is a bit rough, pitching abruptly.  Does anyone have any hints to soften the ride?

The loading of the steer and drive axles is 83% of GAWR.  The tag weighs 6,160 but with no GAWR listed I do not know the percent of load for that axle.  I understand that the best ride occurs when all axles are nearly equally loaded percentage wise.

I have run 105, 100 and 75 pis in the tires.  Keith Risch suggested 95, 85 and 75 psi with no change in comfort of the ride.

Any hints are most appreciated.  Thanks

Rudy,

Hopefully, someone else with a 2001 tag U320 can tell you the tag axle GAWR.

As far as tire pressure, what tires are you running?

Rudy,

Back in '99 we looked at a '97 and a couple of '98 42' coaches. None of the 3 had GAWR and was told that due to it not really having a tag but 2 swing pivot wheel assemblies was the reason for no rating. Now on newer coaches they may have had a thought change as owners really need that info. Salesman told me to figure 9k though.

IIRC, our 03, U320 38 ft coach I'd also 9,000 lbs for the tag axle
