New to Foretravels and the DEF "world." Was advised that the 605 "uses a lot of DEF" but my initial experience is perhaps 150 to 200 miles per gal of DEF, maybe less! So far, have been using 2.5 gal cartons of DEF to refill tank [avoid outdated/contaminated DEF at the truck stop pumps] but at this rate of consumption, using the 2.5 gal cartons is becoming a real pain. Thoughts?
I was told the opposite about using the def at the truck stop pumps. The take was that they use so much def at the truck pumps that it is fresh and the boxes that you buy could be old due to setting on the shelf.
This is one of the things everyone has an opinion on as to what to do or not do. When I am on long trips I fill up with DEF at truck stops. When I am taking short trips I go to Buc-ee's and buy it there by the jug. I try to keep level low around short trips and when going on long ones I fill it up.
I have a friend that has a 2019 Cornerstone with a 605. He uses less DEF then I do. As to how much I use per gallon or mile, I have no idea. I do know I get anywhere from 5-6 MPG on diesel.
The EPA required that a DEF sensor check for quality in 2016. So any coach before that the quality is not being checked, except for if the NOX sensor sees a problem.
