Title: 1995 U300 windshield problem
Post by: Rocky1down on February 27, 2022, 02:25:44 pm
Our 1995 U300 has been sitting in our driveway since Thanksgiving.
We got in it yesterday to get it ready for our first trip in the spring and noticed the windshield had popped out at the top on the drivers side.
Bob thinks it might have settled some and twisted.
We've had lots of snow this winter and really cold temperatures here in Ohio.
Has anyone ever popped one back in by themselves?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I had to borrow back my 88 Grandvilla when my 2000's HWH computer went out. When I picked it up from my son-in law the windshield was out on the driver's side at the top left, it had been sitting uneven. I pulled it in my shop where it could sit level and used a friction jack braced off a wall to gently push on the corner of the windshield while spraying with glass cleaner and working rubber out with a hook tool. It went back in and was fine. Sounds scarry but just go a tiny bit at a time. The trick is steady pressure on the glass.

Like Larry says, work it back in place. Coach should be level and facing the sun. I have used twin suction cups for glass along with a hair dryer/heat gun to warm the gasket and then force it back into place. I have to do it every couple of years. Usually, it's the driver's bottom outside that sticks out a bit. Slow and easy is the ticket.

If I'm in a campsite that's not level and the bags lose air, I've had to start and air up to open one or two compartments. The front and rear frame rails really twist.

Back in the day, pop-out windshields were considered to be very KOOL (pardon the pun).

It's just one of the unique and endearing qualities of the GV...  Try your best to avoid twisting the chassis and hopefully it won't happen often.  8)

Lube it with glycerin as well

Yes! I used an Armor All type spray under the rubber to make it slippery.
