Title: Carpet replacement with a slide
Post by: Elliott on March 07, 2022, 10:01:19 am
For those of you with a living room slide that have redone your carpet, how hard is getting to that edge under the slide? Please don't tell me the slide needs to come out

Elliott, when I did mine with FLOR carpet tiles they just slid under the bottom edge of the slide up to a strip of plywood. The original carpet was stapled down with a lot of staples. The floor of the slide was carpeted too and wrapped over the front edge and glued in place.

I added a layer of 6mm (1/4") underlayment plywood, stapled to the subfloor so that the surface of the FLOR tiles was even with the bathroom tile and the kitchen wood floor.  By doing so I did not have to adjust the plastic slider bar at the bottom of the front edge of the slide floor.

Are you talking about the slide bar that requires adjustment. Torks are exposed under carpet inside on slide floor

Yes, it is a white plastic bar, probably HDPE like a cutting board, that goes from one end to the other along the bottom of the front edge of the slide floor.  There are bolts that can be loosened to adjust it up and down. If you have carpet now you can see it's impression on the carpet when the slide first moves out. It slowly disappears.  FLOR tiles are firmer so not as much with them.

If your talking about how far back you must go with carpet i would remove nylon slide block and push carpet past and staple down. Do not use nail strip. Stretch to cabinets and wall on passenger side and reinstall / adjust. If not adjusted the upper sensors may not be close enough in regard to tipping in or out

The slide never needs to be removed. For some reason the slide was adjusted to rest on that 1/4 inch board. I cut up to that board and leave the carpet on that intact. That way your slide won't give you more headaches and will come in on new material.
If you are putting in hard surface, you can either wrap that adjusting bar with sticky back felt or use cheap vinyl planks to have the slide to move on.

When I pulled the original carpet and padding and replaced with FLOR tiles, the skid plate was proud of the carpet by a lot and adjustment slots maxed out.  I removed the skid strip, unscrewed the plastic, bought some longer torx countersunk screws, added 3/8" ply strip so that the skid contacted the carpet.  JWID.  Woody.

Thanks guys, trying to decide if it's something we can tackle amongst all the other projects before we hit the road this summer. I think other higher priority projects are going to beat it out until the fall.

If only I knew a flooring expert that needed a place to stay with full hooks in Arizona while he's visiting his daughter  O:)
