I am doing Vinyl flooring and the step cover since its connected to the rod of center when it open and closes it get pushed or pulled sideways. thus dragging the opposite corners of that metal plate.
Its a bit rudimentary the way was built .Has anyone done anything with the step to make it came out straight. it would be nice if i can make it come straight and that way i can cantilever the flooring planks a bit over otherwise i have to recess it
Has anyone done anything to address this issue

It may come out straight if both sides of the runner is 'lubed' with wax, etc. Sounds like yours is dragging on a side.
