Title: Bulkhead bolt hole covers
Post by: Elliott on March 30, 2022, 05:41:16 pm
Anyone have a source for the little round plugs that close up the holes giving access to the bulkhead bolts?

I have some, if you want them.  I bought them and went a different direction.

This Heyco hole plug is what the factory used for the through bolts on my bulkhead:

Many on this forum have advised the liquid tite rubber plug in the previous reply.  I bought those and find them difficult to install due to the panel thickness where the plastic plugs allow for a greater range of panel thickness.  Some are concerned about water entering these plugs but I doubt that water splashing up could get past the plastic plugs and I like the idea that not being liquid tite there is a better chance they will allow water to drain out of the basement floor should it find it's way in there (think fresh tank overflow).  In any case the factory installed plugs on my basement floor show no signs of moisture intrusion.  I will use those when I get around to replacing all of the Rolok bolts on my bulkheads.

These are a far better choice, as waterproof.

If using the "factory" plugs, you will want to verify that they bedded them in sealant (any polysulfide)

Thanks, I'll give these a try. A 1.37" mounting hole seems smaller than what I have though... will get under there today and measure first.

Mine are 1.75" in diameter.  When I was speaking with Foretravel, they indicated this was the size that they expected. FOT charges $0.85 for the hole covers. I'm going to try to source water tight ones first though.

With sealant, those may be just fine.  The waterproof Heyco plugs many of us have used are smaller.

We bought them at Ace hardware from their small-drawer isle. Most hardware stores have these drawers...

I ended up buying these and they're perfect. Snug enough fit that you have to tap them in with a mallet.
