Title: Hard wired surge protector and ATS 100
Post by: Peter on April 08, 2022, 10:18:06 am
Hi all
I was thinking about getting a pedestal surge protector to ensure power protection at the sites I was staying at. In investigation I found the hardwired  EMS-LCHW50 In the space in front of bed. Is it overkill to get a portable surge protector for the pedestals as well??  Also I noticed there were 2 ATS 100 boxes stacked close to the  surge protector. Are these good units and can I be confident they work well?? I presume there are two of because of two AC units???

1. Also I noticed there were 2 ATS 100 boxes
2. Are these good units and can I be confident they work well??
3. I presume there are two of because of two AC units???

Peter,
1. that is normal for the 320 coaches
2. For the age they were about the best made.  If you are kind to them and don't make them transfer under load they will give you years of service.  Those can also be rebuilt as a DIY and there is a thread from Barry & Cindy as to how to and part numbers.
3. No.
3a They are for #1 shore or generator on one and the other #2 is for generator/shore (fed from the first transfer switch) or inverter

look for your A-2700 print for more details on this.

Mike

A number of years ago we were with a friend at the Entregra factory and they were having a day where PJ was giving everyone a lesson on electrical in their coaches.  He said that all the new coaches had built in surge protection but suggested that everyone also get one to install at the pole.  He said when the one at the pole lets the smoke out, you can still plug your coach into the pole and know you are still covered.  If no surge at pole and the one in the coach takes the hit you are then in the dark,  Right after that I ordered one to use at pole and have been doing ever since.

Excellent comments turbojack.
I purchased  the Hughes Autoformers PWD50EPO Power Watchdog to supplement  the hard wired one
