Title: Hot water recirculation system
Post by: oldguy on April 11, 2022, 12:47:19 pm
First, if hot water is typed in the search you can find how Roger put his system in.

On this post I will show the kitchen sink. First picture is where I tapped into the cold water line. second picture is right above the tie in and there is a check valve just before the picture I missed and the third picture is horizontal to the pump and tapped into the hot water line just before the valve.

I used the switch that was for the valances lights that were taken out by the owner before me. For a timer I found one locally. I would have used what Roger used but Amazon.ca didn't stock them. I got the pumps though Amazon.ca.

First picture is the shower hookup. When I bought this coach both the shower and the bathroom sink had the hot and cold water lines were hooked backwards so this was a good time to fix it.

Second and third pictures are where I teed the line for the shower and the sink and the down line goes to the pump. I used a sharkbite fitting there as there was no way to use the crimping tool there.

The forth picture is where I tapped in to the hot water line just before the sink valve.

The fifth picture is the pump and the check valve and the cold water tie in. I use for power I disconnected the fill switch and used it for the pump with a timer.

Nice job Peter, a bit more complicated than mine but it will reduce time to hot water even more.  I was trying for as simple as possible to get the desired result.

Hot Water Recirculation (https://www.foreforums.com/index.php?topic=23736.msg185394#msg185394)

I added a water temperature gauge that shows the temperature at the hot side of the distribution manifold.  It gets up to 115 -118° in just 20 to 30 seconds. Hot water to the shower in just a few seconds.

This 10 amp timer is configurable from your phone.
Multi Functional Timers (http://timers.shop/Multi-Functional-Timers_c_15.html)

There is a manual configuration 10 amp timer for $10 less.  And a 5 amp one too.  All can be set for any time length you want.

Yours may be faster then mine. I always wait for a minute. This is good that you have
your link in this post as then anybody can see both options and choose how they
want to do it. When I was doing mine I got the timer idea from you.

Thanks for creating this thread Peter

Peter, in your configuration, where are you tying the recirculated hot water back in?  Looks like just to the cold line nearby - or are you going to a return that goes to the tank like Roger?

Kieth I really like the idea of returning to the tank, may come in handy when we are up in the northern part of Canada keeping the tank from freezing.

I installed a recirculation flow for the shower 2 years ago as well.

In our coach I was able to access the hot line to the shower and the tank fill line behind the access panel in the wet bay. I installed a Tee into each line with an electric solenoid valve in a new line bridging the hot and fill. I installed a momentary switch on the vanity in the bath which triggers a timer circuit to open the solenoid for 20 seconds.  This approach does not require a new pump it uses the pressure from the regular water pump. Opening the valve flows the pressurized hot water to the unpressurized fill line to the water tank. It works great.

My return just goes into the cold water line. You now have two different ways to
get almost instant hot water. I can see why the system that Roger and Bruce uses
will get hot water to the tap quicker than mine as the main pump is a lot bigger.
I didn't think of doing it that way and if I did I would still do the kitchen that way
as it is easier but for the bathroom I'm not sure which would be the easiest.

The hubs did ours like Bruce's in 3 different coaches so I didn't have to stand around waiting on hot water in the shower. IMO the best upgrade that has been done plus the saving on water.
