Title: DIY Hyd fluid/filter change--IH45
Post by: OldScout on April 13, 2022, 04:40:17 pm
Anyone have experienced with DIY engine fan hydraulic fluid/filter change on an 2015 IH45?  Curious about best way to drain hyd reservoir.  Looks like a large disc opening on front of tank--might be a gasket involved there?  Haven't seen a drain plug.  Could also remove hose connection. Thoughts?

Unless different from earlier models, I just buy 5' of cheap clear vinyl hose.

Remove the lid and start a siphon to drain all the fluid from the outside of the filter elements.

If it has the wing nut holding the filters in place with a spring under it watch out. It's very slippery and can get away from you in a hurry. A 30 minute job becomes a much bigger job. It's stainless, magnet won't help you. VOE - voice of experience.

I have used a shop vac!  Run a hose to the bottom of reservoir  then into a 5 Fallon bucket with lid.  A flanged hose barb is easiest to deal with or just run the hose to the bottom of bucket,  make another hole for the shop vac hose,  Use silicone to seal around  the 2 hoses. once silicone has set up, turn the vacuum on and suck out the oil.  Just be careful to not fill the bucket up or you will. suck oil into the shop vac.
I used this method to pull the oil out of a tractor differential,  it was over 10 gallon so I has to stop a couple of times to pour out the bucket
By the time you go to all this trouble--Bretts method would have already finished!!!!
Just a alternative way of doing the same thing
