Title: Vmspec install, no joy
Post by: Ldillow on April 16, 2022, 04:33:36 pm
I have the screen. Computer says serial port 3 USB is active. Got a solid green light and blinking red light on jib. If i disconnect USB, lights go away. If i disconnect odb port. No change.

A little history, i had an eletrical surge event and took out some stuff. Iluminesant panel PS, radio power filter and my blue fire device quite working. No lights. Figured the bluefire was toast, but could be something going on with odb connector? Is it hard wired to ECU? Any fuses? I will puck this back up monday when i can call for support.

Finally check the Communications.
The JIB should be connected to the Data Port and the PC to the JIB.
From the Advanced Menu select Communications.
The JS501 USB should be selected. Click on Scan for JIB Connections.

You should see COM ports here for VMSpc. double click on the highlighted one.
The Port should read the one you selected. The Status may read OK. Or it might say Failure between
JIB and Engine. The Ignition needs to be on (but the engine does not have to be running) to get this
bit to work. There is much more info on this process in the User Manual.

Done all that, still no work.
I see data, minimal, going between PC and JIB when you look at the port.
Is there anyway to verify the ODB port us working?

I can disconnect the cable to the ODB, or nor turn on ignition.
No change in the way it is acting

If you plug in all the cables and have the ignition on look under the Advanced Menu, Communications and see what the status says.  If it says failure between JIB and engine then your data bus may be screwed up.  If you disconnect the USB cable then the JIB should still be getting power from the 12v lines in the data cabling.  The JIB can get power from either end.  If there are no lights then there is no power in the data bus cables.

I don't know it there are fuses.  See the wiring diagrams for the plugs, you can test for 12v.

When poking around my engine, there is also another round 9-pin on the engine itself, above the starter on mine.  If you haven't permanently mounted your JIB, you could try that port and see if it works differently than what you are seeing at the front.

I will check for 12v on the plug, I will also find the other plug. Do they go directly to ECU?

I have 12v and ground. One of the signaling wires has about 1v on it. The other has nothing. According to SL it should have around 4v on it.
The rectangular port had 4v on it so I cut the wire and connected it to the 6 port plug directly. So now I have 12v, grand, 1v and 4 volt.
Still doesn't work. Guess I will have to take it somewhere to get fixed? I will be in Monroe wa with the coach, if someone wants to stop by and test there vmspec on my coach.

Update
I had the grnd and data wire mixed, that is why i had the 0 reading.
Now i have at wires to jib. Grnd to 12v, 1.2v approx. 4.7v approx.
This is what VMSpec said i should have, yet they wont send me another unit until i verify the ODB port works. No one around me works on motorhomes anymore. I think i have a line on a guy next week.
We will verify whether the port is working, or fix it

Hi,

I wonder if you got a resolution on this.  I have a similar issue.  Electrical surge, solid green and flashing red light, but no engine data?  Did it turn out the be this jib or the ODB port?    THanks!
