Title: Replacement stove/overn
Post by: Heather T on April 19, 2022, 08:34:04 pm
Looking to replace my stove/oven in my 1995 U280 Grandvilla.

There doesn't seem to be a perfect option...I'm driving myself and my husband crazy.  When I compare the measurements of my current original stove (4 burner Magic Chef) to the options on-line, something always seems to be slightly off (i.e.: the width matches, and the depth matches but the height is different.  I don't want to lose the drawer underneath.  I also don't want to have to cut the countertops.

I never received a manual for the current/original stove, so I don't have the manufactures specs.  Because I live in Maine, we don't have a lot of choices for in person shopping, so I'm having to order on-line. I hate to order something, just to have to return it.

Has anyone replaced their stove oven combo with another stove oven combo?  If, yes, what size and brand/model?

This all started because I need to replace the grates, which are no longer in existence and a blacksmith was going to charge me $600.00 to fabricate new ones...UGH!!

Might be easier and cheaper to go with the blacksmith.

Actually, you should be able to find the grates as part of discarded stove (i.e. free or close to it) OR at an RV salvage yard.

There should be quite a number of scrapped 27 year old coaches (not specifically Foretravels) out there.

Forget that. Contact your local fence builder and show him what you want. He is about $400 too high IMO you can order 1/2"
Or 3/8 solid stainless and build out of that. Good service life and will clean well. Will not season like cast. In thinking about this you could do in cold roll steel, would be a lot more affordable but would require to be seasoned to keep from rusting. Another option. PM me if you can't resolve.

Contact the Foretravel and MOT remodel shops. They may have some grates on a removed stove.

If you lift the white cooktop, in the back right corner there will be a label with the model info.  It may or may not still be readable.  FWIW, the 4 burner Magic Chef stove/oven in our 95 U240 is a model 16RW-4TZ.

I have called FT renovations department both for grates and recommendations of new stove...no grates and they would not recommend a new stove.

I have searched the internet for grates-found some in Canada (old farts RV)...have to buy the whole stove-

We don't have RV salvage yards here in Maine or ...when our Barth burned, we couldn't find a salvage yard to even take it...and it's getting harder and harder to even find used truck parts for our 3- 7.3 Powerstrokes...or even knowledge people to work on them..at least here in the NE...but, that's another issue.

I have contacted two different companies (1 in CA and 1 in Ohio) to have the stove and grates  re-enameled...no one calls me back. That's another trade/business going by the wayside ...especially here in  the NE.

Today, I will try MOT. At this point I have been working on a solution for the stove grate issue for about 6 months...which is why at this  point I am leaning towards replacing the whole unit.

Also, thank you for posting the  model # of the Magic Chef...mine was un-readable.

I would be very grateful, for any leads for RV salvage yards, either in the North East or people who are willing to do everything over the phone and mail.

Thank you
