Title: A/C Question
Post by: Res777 on April 26, 2022, 03:53:10 pm
I spent a coach buck last July getting the dash air cooling when I bought it. Now it's not cooling again so off to MOT again.
So I was wondering. I'm getting ready to replace my alternator with a Delco 40si 240Amp. Replace batt isolator with 250Amp Sterling ProSplitR. 3 new 8D AGM batteries. Running through a 3000watt inverter. If I put a soft start on the front A/C would this system run it? Obviously if I stop or get into traffic where a lot of time was spent idling I would run the generator or turn the unit off. It would be nice to have that as a backup on the highway without having to run the generator. Thoughts.....

Thanks,
Robert

I do it all the time with a similar setup; albeit lithium batteries.

Roof AC while driving, no generator. (https://www.foreforums.com/index.php?topic=43115.msg433503#msg433503)

Check that the cables from the alternator can handle the extra amps. You might have
to put in larger cables.

A quick note about your dash A/C issue...mine quit working as expected and it turned out that the condenser fan wasn't running.  If you turn the key on, turn the A/C on, the condenser fan should run.  If it isn't it could be a fuse or relay...easy fix.  See this thread for more info and pics:  Dash A/C Condenser Fan Wiring (http://www.foreforums.com/index.php?topic=40281)

So I have see several of the condenser fans fail. I also was quite surprised to see the receiver dryer to badly failed corrosion internally that the entire system was contaminated with rust the one I replaced it with actually has a desiccant viewing window so you can externally inspect. I'll try to remember to post the link later when I'm not on my phone

Last year the fix was a new condenser fan and dryer. Supposedly held a nitrogen charge with no leaks. So it will be interesting to see what the diagnosis is. It's blowing air just not cold air.
