I have a Basler AVC 63-4 voltage regulator that I think is bad. Generator runs great after a bit it drops the voltage but continues to run. Does anyone have the trouble shooting steps to check the VR. And has anyone changed theirs out, direct plug and play? I talked to Jeff at power tech a while back but for got what he told me.
Bruce you want to talk to Jeff again.
How not to change voltage regulator in genset (https://www.foreforums.com/index.php?topic=32784.msg294847#msg294847)
When I changed mine Jeff explained how to change it and he told me to call him before I
started the generator. Then he had me tell him what I had done and as I had done what he
had told me he then had me started it. Just use Jeff.
Bruce,
the above statements are good advice. If your existing regulator is for sure a Basler AVC63-4 then it should be a direct swap as long as you haven't changed the output configuration from 120 to a 120/240 or vice versa. Same regulator will work for both but the connections are different.
If you have the old style tan colored VR ........... then be careful and get the diagram from power tech and speak with Jeff.
Also need to know if your generator is "self excited" or "brush type"
Just went through all of this with ours...............
I had my old one quit twice and both times it turned out to be the wire end had broken from
the wire. The second time I put the new regulator in which I had ordered when the first wire
end had broke.
