Hello my new Friends
New to forum and first ForeTravel. Bought the Iron Horse a month ago. Love it! Cruise control will power on, can set fast idol. Depress the air brake get up to 30+ mph and the cruise will not engage. It shows green on the dash monitor showing it's on but won't hold speed. A couple mechanic friends said Speed Sensor in Allison tail shaft. Called Allison, 35 yr mechanic for Allison said no, it's ECM with Cummins. MOT went through the ECM and couldn't find any errors. I've got an appointment with Cummins on 7/5, soonest they can get me in. Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance
Welcome to the forum.
Check your retard lever and make sure it is off and or turned off with the switch. If retard lever is not all the way off it will disengage the cruise,
You might also want to change your username from your email address. You will soon if not already start to be spammed to death.
Lastly go in your profile and put what your coach is. That way when you do other posts no one will have to guess what your coach is.
Thank you so much for the info. Yep, I've had the retard level at the #6 position and the switch on ever since we left TX. I'll pull it out of the barn tomorrow and take it for a spin with everything off.
I updated my profile. We live in Central Florida.
Traded my American Eagle for the Iron Horse. What a great machine. Love the 600hp.
Thanks again for the info.
Hello Friends
I'm back. Started up the Iron Horse. Silver leaf all good. Depressed the air brake, turned off transmission retard, engaged drive. Got Iron Horse up to 40 mph, turned on cruise control...press set button. Ugh. Wouldn't engage and hold speed. Ugh. Did this several times. Still no speed locking. Brought Iron horse back home. Sitting in driveway with parking brake set. Pressed cruise control set. Engine RPM increased to 900. Pressed resume and RPM went to 1200.
Any thoughts or suggestions?
Don't know about an IH but you may need to be a little higher MPH. Our 320 won't latch up lower than about 45 and need to be in at least 4th gear.
Mike
I do not know what the lowest speed I have ever used, but I think I have always been at least 50+, so don't know what the low speed is.
I am assuming you are pressing the on and off cruise button and turning the cruise system on first. There is a spot in the dash display that shows you if it is on.
When you try to activate cruise does dash display show cruise is set and the speed it is set for?
Yes sir, I press the on cruise button. The dash display shows the green "c". I push the set button and nothing else happens.
I believe I tried it at 45 mph as well.

I pulled it out of the barn and just dropped it off at Rush Truck Center. There's a repair shop within 20 minutes from the house.
Keep y'all posted.
Were you referring to Paul Yasbeck?
Paul Yasbeck? I don't believe I know him
Here is listing for Foretravel Customer references
Thank you for the info on Paul. I'll call him tomorrow.
I dropped the IH off at Rush Truck Center. Rush said they can't access the dash display. Rush said they can see Cummins has a code that needs to be reset but they don't have the right program to access the display. They said it looks like a third party software program?
I called and left a msg with Ron & Chad at FOT. I spoke to silver leaf and they said disconnect the dash display and it might reset. However, they said there should be more errors if it was the silver leaf.
I called and left a msg with Cummins to see if they have any special software that Rush truck center should have?
Cruse control is in the ecm of the engine. The silverleaf just shows what it is getting from the ecm.
Now I have been wrong a few times.
Possible the set button is not working. Have you tried the resume button?
Hello Friends
Good news. Rush Truck Center got the cruise to work. Cruise just needed to be turned on.
I ended up finding the previous owner (great gentleman) and he shared with me the history of the Coach. They recently installed a new ECM. Sounds like Cummins just forgot to turn on the cruise.
Now my foot won't fall a sleep. Headed to Menlo Ga for the 4th of July weekend.
Have a save 4th of July. My father in law would always say...I'm going to have a 5th on the 4th. Ha.
Safe travels
Glad to hear you got it working and thanks for coming back with the solution.
I seem to remember someone a while back was needing a new ECM. I would never have thought that Cruise needed to be turned on in the ECM
I'm impressed that somebody at a Truck Center would take a look and actually fix the problem.
I'm an insurance agent that helps Trucking Companies over the 48 states purchase insurance. 3 of my largest customer were in Rush Truck Center. I called one of the customers that has 500 trucks and said...help me push this along. That might have helped.
I'm particularly pleased that someone at a Truck Center would check into the issue and really fix it.
Paul is a good resource for you. His shop is over in Leesburg.
Second the Paul Yasbeck recommendation you are lucky to be living in the same state as Paul. He did some excellent work on my previous U320 and I wouldn't hesitate to take my current one to him.
