Title: Replacing ProSine 2.5 with Victron Multiplus
Post by: Herb Stark on July 04, 2022, 05:27:12 pm
My Prosine 2.5 Charger Inverter woke up one morning not charging.  I did a hard reset based on information from ProSine Support and this forum.  It did restart the Prosine, however I did not trust it to continue to operate given its age and the fact that I planned to upgrade batteries soon and add solar.  Roger Engdahl has written many posts on the upgrades he has done in this regard.  So since the trail had been already blazed, no sense in making new trails.

I decided to start with a direct replacement for the Prosine 2.5.  This will give me the opportunity to fix what may be broken and gain some experience with operation before I change batteries, add solar and do a much more involved installation.  To start with, I decided while I was waiting on delivery from Bay Marine that I would move the sliding trays over to the adjacent bay.

I then replaced the Prosine with the Victron and added the Cerbo GX to the floor of the pantry where I had previously ran wiring for the SeaLevel gauges.  I mounted the Display for the Cerbo above the SeaLevel. Also have SeaLevel gauges in the wet bay.

Turned out to be a pretty neat installation.  I do have more than the minimum clearances on all sides.  Took a little tweaking, but finally got it all put together and talking to each other.  I do not see a way to add the start battery to the color display of the Cerbo.  That would save me having to pull out my phone to check it's state of charge.  I guess I could replace the House batteries on the SeaLevel with the Start batteries.  But the Cerbo has the start battery data already so seems like I should be able to show it on the color display.

The trickle charger works great to keep my start batteries topped off.  Now I do not have to remember to put the boost switch on from time to time as they are charged automatically with the New Victron.  Good Investment.  Since we now have always on internet that stays with the coach, I can check the status of my batteries from anywhere via my phone.

I want to be sure that I give Roger E. as much credit as he deserves.  With many texts, emails and phone calls he made this job possible.  As I add solar and new LiPo4 batteries, I will need all the help he can give me.

Nice install. Now you are ready for the future and know a lot more about your 12V system.
