Before I cut an artery, is this bulb removable for replacement? Or is this an oem socket and I need to replace it as a whole unit?
I did a search (search box upper right) and found this thread.
Door handle LED bulb replacement (https://www.foreforums.com/index.php?topic=43910.msg443147#msg443147)
From what I can see from your picture it looks like it pulls straight out.
Me too, but it wont...but maybe i'm just scared to squeeze too hard and bust it. It's not budging. I've even tried to push in and turn but it doesn't move at all.
I'll check out the link shared above...
Thanks sir, but no mention of any issues removing bulb from socket...maybe it's been in there a million years and i'll need to use some pliers and a rag to carefully remove. 🤷♂️
On our '97 the bulb has to be pushed in slightly and then twisted CCW to remove.

Literally had to break bulb, then use small screw driver to break the rest out down in contact area...pretty sure someone glued the bulb in there...or it just got hot over and over and melted to the plastic...the light was working fine but I'm installing new handle and have new bulbs, though the bulbs I bought are the BA9S bulbs which are not going to work with this socket.
Guess I either buy the slip in automotive bulbs (think they're 194's) or buy a socket that fits the BA9S's I have.
Why does everything down to the smallest detail have to be a pain in the ass with these things...guess the head nods I get driving this beauty down the road will have to make up for the hair pulling
Whatever you end up installing, you should try to find one that produces less heat than the last bulb.
