Title: Watch out for the birds
Post by: kjsifer on July 17, 2022, 11:19:04 pm
Sparrows built a nest on top of my radiator. Some if it went down between the radiator and whatever is behind it. (Oil cooler maybe?)

Anyway I got as much out of there as I could but it's mighty skinny space. Guess I'll have to keep a close eye on the gauges.

Let me know if you have any ideas on how to get in there to make sure I got it all. I do have a flexible camera I could use to see back in there. I guess I'll be putting some wire mesh behind that grill. Last year it was starlings in the A/C units.

If you take the belting off below the radiator and the aftercooler you can see up between all
the coolers.

On a related note, we have had the birds build nests up inside our exhaust pipe - on TWO occasions over 10 years.  I only discover them after I fire up the engine and do my walk-around check.  I find the whats left of the nest sitting on the ground behind the coach.  No sign of the occupants, but they don't come back (that season) after the rude eviction.

Can't imagine why any animal would want to make a home up inside a sooty, stinky dark metal tube...  No accounting for taste.

Could be worse, could have been a cat or some other curious mammal. A cat can be messy after start up this is something I know about !

Ditto.  A couple of thumps from the fan blades and then - - - - parts everywhere.  Made me sick

Kevin they make a long wand for a vacuum cleaner that is for getting dust bunnies out of a refrigerator coil.  I think I purchased mine from amazon it came with a brush that was on a 3' wire handle.  I have used it for several things besides the refrigerator
