Title: 2001 U320 Shower Valve
Post by: dlkj07 on July 22, 2022, 01:55:47 am
I've already ordered new shower components minus the shower handle. I'm not sure any ol handle will work so I'm looking at one that seems to use the same valve motion as what I have. I hate the 1000 caret diamond valve that comes with these but I think the one I found might work.

Kingston Brass KB538LSO Shower Only for KB538L, Brushed Nickel | KingstonBras... (https://www.kingstonbrass.com/product/kingston-brass-kb538lso/)

I don't want to change the valve, just changing everything from gold to brushed nickel.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

My 03 U320 has a Moen Moentrol valve and shower knob (1000 carat as you say).  You have to stay with components that work with the valve, since it has specific parts like the temp limit stop, etc.
The knob is the only piece that stayed in my setup.  I hated the brass/gold look, so I replaced it all with brushed nickel.

The Escutcheon was the hardest piece to find and took the longest to get: Moen Kingsley Moentrol Part Escutcheon - Brushed Nickel (97577BN) (http://www.plumbersstock.com/moen-97577bn-part-escutcheon-brushed-nickel.html)

Here are the other parts I replaced:

Thanks, so I'm not sure where the stop tube goes. Is that behind the escutcheon attached to the valve? I guess I shouldn't assume I have the same valve as yours and just order everything you did correct?

Keith what did you do with the gold pieces that hold the shower glass?

The stop tube is behind the knob, and goes through the escutcheon.  This is what stops the knob from turning beyond 90* left or right of center.  When the knob comes off, it just slides out.

Elliott, that I haven't changed.  Actually, I'd like to replace the shower pan and shower enclosure with a curved one for a little more room, and a door that slides sideways instead of opening out into the bathroom area.  Something like this:

Got it, so what would be the best way to replace OEM knob with something different? How do I know if it will function properly? Is pulling off the current knob and matching it with something that attaches the same way the only way? Guess what I'm getting at is I want to just order a replacement knob similar to what is in the link on my first post and not take mine apart to do so.

I believe if you want a different knob, you have to change out the valve.  If yours is a Moen, might be worth calling them and asking what your options are.

May not have to change valve. Find handle and accessories you want and see what kind of valve is suggested for them. THen see if it same as installed. Alot of these fixtures use same valve.

I'll need to look in my mounds of paper work and see if it mentions what valve I have, then I can search for a handle.

Thanks again for all that helped out 👍

Without a picture I can't say for sure, but since mine is a Moen "Moentrol" valve, I'm guessing yours might be too.  You can go here to identify by picture:

If it's a moen you may have to buy an adaptor to make the new handle and cover plate fit, they changed the configuration a good time ago
