Hello all,
During a normal exercise run of the generator we blew the fan capacitor it seems and the fan wasn't running. When I came back to the generator I found it boiling over and coolant coming out. Thankfully it seems no worse for the wear other than having to add back in a lot of coolant. But obviously my overheat temperature sensor is no good. I am reading from other threads that it is supposed to kick in at 230-240 degrees. This seems really high to me as our thermostat temp keeps it at 180F (160F if you read the black hoses with an IR gun). Even so it probably would have tripped that and shut down before boiling. Anyone have a part number for the temperature switch? We have the Isuzu 3LD1 with remote radiator. Thanks! Now that I know where it is I do have to try grounding it off to make sure the controller or wiring isn't the problem.
PS if you have the electric fan, this might be something worth testing when you are in good circumstances (switch off the fan breaker and monitor the temperature to make sure it eventually shuts down due to overheat).
Does any one know the part number of the capacitor for the fan. It looks like it may be a
good idea to have a spare an move the capacitor where it can be change easily.
On our coach we have a 5uf/370-440 VAC

Any HVAC supply will have them Yours may be different so you may want to double check.

Mine has the 12kw and I *think* it is a 15uf (the label is very worn) so I replaced it with this one. 15 uf MFD 370 VAC OVAL Capacitor 12910 Replaces C315 C315L 27L567 27L567BX |... (https://www.ebay.com/itm/175141412267) Seems to work fine.

While working on the cooling system did you check your water pump belt?

Yep, I can see in that it looks very good. Coolant circulation is good. It overheated due to no fan. It's probably due for another belt as the first belt broke for the previous owner in 2010 or so.
I got mine out from behind the fan. Wasn't to bad to get at but the front is much better
and putting it back would be a bitch.The one that is in there is a 97f9121

I wonder why mine is different than yours and Marks? I need to do some more research and see if someone has changed out the OEM one and added just what they could come up with the day it failed.

I'm not sure about motor run capacitors but it may be a situation where it just needs more than a certain amount of capacitance and as long as it's above the minimum it's okay.
I talked to a friend who has done some with capacitors and he said if it is ac 370 volts and
15mf for motors it will work and as you said who knows if it is original or not. At least I'm
not in a panic as the old one works. It sure makes sense to move them so they are easy to
get at.
