Title: TracStar satellite receiver
Post by: dlkj07 on July 31, 2022, 02:08:58 pm
I've heard the track star sv360 is pretty much obsolete and won't work. I need room for solar panels so I'm going to toss it. Is there any reason I shouldn't get rid of this? If there was a way to utilize it I would tweak my solar configuration and keep it on. I already do have a star link so for the most part I'm okay with just streaming media and not needing live TV.

They were great back in the day that they came out but that was many years ago. They have not been supported by the company for quite a few years. I would take it off.

Use your cell phone's data plan to stream from millions of sites both here and abroad, all for free. A few will require an in country location but a VPN like SurfShark solves that in less than 10 seconds. Less than $2/mo, it's located overseas and keeps your location private and almost anywhere you want it to be in the world. Brand - Surfshark (https://surfshark.com/deal/brand?gclid=Cj0KCQjw0JiXBhCFARIsAOSAKqDk9HXbKIB3AzO1JuB9Y9TDeWo-dPAGHKMWL5WxkJYbr8ojMdCPyIQaAgm3EALw_wcB) Want to watch Australia Netflix? Just use SurfShark to make your location in Sydney or Brisbane. All VPNs do just about the same thing but cost different so read all the customer reviews before you sign up for a few years.

Most all HDTVs TVs will allow you to mirror the cell phone to any size TV in excellent resolution, just like at home.

Just because you have 4 bars on your phone does not mean you have 4 bars of data. The two don't have that much to do with each other. If you can't get online, turn off "automatic" on your cell data and wait a minute for the list to populate and then try one after another until one works the best. The campground host will usually know which provider works best in the area. Still may not be good enough for streaming. As an example, we have T-mobile. Great phone in June Lake but zero data. We just asked the CG staff what works best, turned off "automatic" and selected AT&T for internet. Tower was over by Mammoth Lakes but good enough for news and email. If you can receive OTA TV in a big city, you can probably stream from a cell connection. Just like CNN, etc, just enter the site address that  hosts the stream and away you go.

My coach has a satellite dish, but I use the Fire Stick for most all of my TV viewing.

I was thinking of getting one of the Over Air dome receivers for local use but haven't jumped yet.  If Data use with the Fire Stick becomes a problem, then I'll have to make a decision...

I had a dome type satellite receiver, on a prior unit, and snow didn't affect the reception as much a slight layer of dust.

The starlink coverage does not show that. Is it wrong?
