Title: Ok let's talk crap!!
Post by: NevadaBornRvR on August 04, 2022, 07:49:41 pm
What hoses are you guys using to dump the Black tanks? Seems the ones I have tried all get pin holes real quick so anyone used one that works like its supposed too?

I have to cut the end off and add my thetford adaptor to the hose to make it work as its too tight for any adaptors. ^.^d  ^.^d

Rhino extreme or no freeze sewage is the best quality. Have both. One for winter and the other for "put out pullin all the time ....lots of summer use.

My preference is for the Sewer Solution which uses 3/4 smooth bore reinforced plastic hose and an adapter that has a water jet to shoot the black tank contants down the drain.  Its jet can be turned into the black tank to help flush the last bits out.  When finished, the hose is clean.  Three 10 foot sections store compactly in the basement.  I use one or what ever I need to reach the drain.  Easy operation.

Some folks do not like the longer drain time for the 3/4 hose.  But no Drips, no Spills, easy operation.

Yup, they all get small holes. I just use electric over the holes, a couple of wraps around the pipe and all is well.

First, search for 3rd valve, there are numerous write-ups on there.

Second, Installed one of these Amazon.com: Valterra T1029-2 Termination Adapter - 3" Bayonet x 3" Hub ,... (https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0006MRRWG)  This allows you to add this traditional bayonet adapters. Some do it permanently, I put this on when needed. That is my 3rd valve.  Amazon.com: Camco 39513 3" RV Waste Valve with Plastic Handle- Easily... (https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B000EDUTQ8)

Third, I then installed this to the valve Amazon.com: Camco Clear 45 Degree Sewer Hose Adapter Fitting - See Through... (https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B000EDSSEI)  I personally like the clear as it allows me to see when the water is clean

Finally, I have this and it has worked well.
Amazon.com: Camco RhinoFLEX RV Sewer Hose Kit with Swivel Transparent Elbow... (https://smile.amazon.com/Camco-RhinoFLEX-Translucent-Frustration-Free-39770/dp/B01HPHR2M4)  I would probably have gone with the extreme version but at the time, it was not available.

This is my setup and it has worked well for me.

That came installed on my coach along with the Drain Master electric valves when we bought it. Seven years now and no problems.

The cam lock system is full proof. I've seen it on a lot of pumps and it works great.

I also installed the wastemaster hose two years ago. I love it.
I previously used the camco system. I think it was that came with the coach. Wasn't a big fan.
I do not like the wastemaster electric valves that I installed though, but I think I over tightened them.

The rhinoflex si the one that has the leaks... third one and didnt last very long

On the 2002 there is no room for any adaptor and the 90 degree spout.. its real tight.. Once I put the elbow on its out of room

Rudy I ordered one of those small pumps and see how it works.. dumping into the house drain right now as the remodel is taking place..

Second the Waste Master.  One of the first upgrades we did.  You need to convert the hookup but its far and above everything else we've used.

Rudy,
This looks really good. I think I spending so much time and water making sure the hose and the ends are as clean as it can be. I think I am going to try it your way :-)

Back in 2000 we found that Sewer Solution and have used this with great success!  I have actually pumped up a slight hill for just about 75 feet with no issues!  Yes, it takes longer, but when you need it, it works!
On the Rhino hoses, I don't leave anything hooked up when just sitting.  When ready to dump, I get the hoses out and dump and install them back in the box I took them from till the next time!  Love the Drain Master, but like others, have no room for this setup!  Since we have removed the muffler, would like to build a box in that space for the hoses.  Just thinking out loud!

Does the Sewer Solution require a dedicated water hose?
Title: Re: Ok let's talk crap!!
Post by: Rudy on August 05, 2022, 09:24:18 am
The Sewer Solution needs a pressure water supply to work correctly.  I use the water in the utility bay with valves to turn on and off.

The head type might not fit mine. Thetford style is larger so not sure I'll be able to use this one but we will see.. might try to modify it . I also have been using my mercerator to dump in the clean out vent.. just those pin holes was like a water fountain.. made a mess .. anyways I ordered the one above that's been used for about 16 months also(on my phone so can't look and type. That one I can change the receiver end on and make it work for sure. Crappy situation I know..

A few years back, when we wintered in Stinson's RV Park east of Zapata, TX, we were told to either take in our drain hoses unless we were draining or to cover them with some PVC eaves trough to keep birds from pecking holes in them.
Don't know if the birds did that or if the covering was effective........just mentioning.

To make things easier, cut off the end of your 3 inch pipe coming out for drain on black/grey tank and add this fitting from Amazon.  Then any item you connect will work with no issues.  You must use a glue for that black fitting and use an undercut saw to remove, clean edges and glue new adapter to your pipe for easy use.  Any hose you chose or Sewer Solution hookup will work now.  Hope this helps!

Nevada,  When you remove the Thedford fitting, install a third valve and Valterra connection.  I would not be without one now that I have one.  I did this on my 1995 and it was already installed on my 2001 when I bought it, thanks to previous owner.  Bless him.

I will post a pic of how tight it is in there.. The elbow barely makes it. it has to line up with the teeth then the access hole too.. Not sure why the made it that way as they could have brought it straight out and been better..After those two are missed I have the popouts from the actual cover that covers the pipes and wires...

The main issue I would have with the Wastemaster is replaceability.  Had someone step on our hose once and that led to a leak.    I was able to replace it easily because the RV park had hoses.      If it had been a Wastemaster type , then no joy on replacement without shopping around.

After that incident I started noticing who carried what type of hose.  Seems everybody Carries the camco type of hose. But RV parks, Dollar stores or even hardware stores rarely stock Wastemaster type.

Point is, ours was damaged / ruined through no fault of mine so you just never know when Murphy is stopping by.  I do really like the Wastemaster type but I'm going to continue to use one that anybody and everybody stocks.

Side note.  We left our hose connected in the Arizona heat this year and the hose ( rhino flex ) virtually disintegrated. Split apart in several places when I touched it.  Gray water EVERYWHERE.

My hose is only hooked up while dumping with me standing there. It will never get damaged by someone else.

Agreed. I do the same thing. The only thing I usually keep hooked up is my 50 amp power. Water hose is stored in the reel , and wastemaster hose in the wet thing. In order to make room for it, I removed the bottom part of the wet bay put the third valve in, as well as the cam lock fitting for the wastemaster hose. Now I just dump and store it back in there again. It gets a little dirty but it's okay. I'm not a neat freak. I can fill my tank and dump pretty much at the same time. I have a direct fill that I installed a few years ago and all I have to do is turn a half inch PVC valve with the water on and my tank will fill in about 20 minutes. During that time. I dumped it black first, then I shut the third valve and I back flush the gray into the black tank, then I shut the gray tank and then I open the third valve and reempty the black tank, and then open the gray tank and finish draining it out. Sometimes I flush the tank with fresh water. Sometimes I don't. I have a little leak around the sealant when it flushes and I really need to replace that but haven't done it yet.
I always wonder why people leave their sewer lines out when they're only even at an RV park for a day or two. But to each his own I guess. I think some people just think that that's what you're supposed to do, maybe?
And I don't know about birds pecking holes in sewer hose, but I do know about lawn guys coming with the weed wacker... Also, if you stepped on the wastemaster hose, you will not crush it. You can deform it but the thing will still work. And at the end, the part that goes into the sewer has a valve on it. It so that's like a fourth valve. And that thing when it closes creates a vacuum in the hose. Nothing is going to leak.
But the point about not being able to easily replace it is true except for they sell an adapter that you can then go and buy a cheap bayonet style hose and still use the cam lock until your new wastemaster hose gets delivered to you. And yes I have the adapter.

Here you go.. To close for anything else to fit.
Title: Re: Ok let's talk crap!!
Post by: Jason on August 06, 2022, 12:45:00 am
Yea, that's pretty tight! However I think all is not lost. I'd cut the black pipe back several inches and put on the adapter so that you can convert it to the more popular/available camco style. And also get the clear elbow and 3rd valve from above. The valve would have to be sideways and you'd only attach the valve and elbow when dumping. That is how I do mine. You'd have to measure the length of that triple combo and then cut so it could fit without hitting the left side.

It appears that the black pipe is new, was that added recently?

I know I'm going to catch all kinds of crap for this, but here goes.  When we stay at a park for several days, I leave the sewer and water connected.  Gray water drain valve open.  That way the DW uses the sinks and showers like a residence without regard to tank space.  The day before departing I close the gray water drain valve so we have a partially full gray water tank for emptying the morning of departure.  I do turn the hose off at the pedestal when we are away from the coach.  When we're travelling point to point stopping a night at a time I only connect to power.  No hoses.  We take Navy showers and conserve water and tank space.  Empty roughly every 3-4 days.  I'm not ignorant of the potential risks but keeping the wife happy trumps them all.  Just sayin... :)    I don't have a strong opinion on what drainage hose to use.  The solutions mentioned are terrific.  To me it's just a straw so whatever works and minimizes contamination.  One thing that I do every time is that before storing, I spray the sewer hose end pieces, the tank outlet and cap and my giant rubber gloves with Lysol spray.  Kills 99%...

We replaced the drain pipe last year. So its new... Now enough room in height or if I cut it back... that shelf above block me from using any other third valve.. it would stick out at an angle to fir and then the door wouldnt close. Just all around tight.

I hook mine hose up and leave it but keep the valves closed... Dump when needed.. Black first then the grey to wash the line and hose out. quick and easy. I see guys take a half hour or more dumping... Not sure what they do... First rule in pluming school "Crap Runs Down Hill" and the second rule is "Payday Is On Friday"... Seems simple enough for this dummy.

Your pictures are too close to really see the whole bay to tell what's going on. I'm sure you know your own system, but what I did was to remove that backing area that is supposed to hide the sewer pipes. Remove that and you've got more space. I bet that it would be fairly easy once you had it exposed to figure out how to do it.
But if you don't want to do that, you're going to have to live with the space. But you have an accident waiting to happen there with that set up.

Hatch what I would say would be to edumacate my better half on how to use water in a coach. As long as you're able to monitor your tanks, it should not be a problem. Make sure you're putting enough water in your black tank So you don't get the dreaded poop pyramid. So far I've only had one time where I was taking a shower and I realized that it wasn't draining and it wasn't draining but it was because my gray tank was full. And that's when I had a lady friend over in Mexico.
The longest I've gone and could have gone a little bit longer. Is 3 weeks off of tanks alone. That's when I was getting a coach painted in Mexico and it was stuck in warehouse paint booth for 3 weeks. It can be done. Just not with a woman lol. So for those of you that are thinking that that was kind of rude and misogynistic let's just say it is from experience.
Do what works for you.
