On the road 7 hours from destination. No codes. Does it in any gear. The gear position indicator dims or goes out and then comes back. Does it while parked too. The "economy" mode indicator blinks in unison with it. Getting 13.3v at the dash and VMSpc. Ran slide in and out with no change in behavior. Flipping the HWH override switch did nothing. Cause for mediate concern or can I keep going?
Restarted coach and It's permanently dim. I don't think it ever goes out, just dims. I can cover it with my hand and see it better. Still responds to shift commands.
If I put it in economy mode, light tries to comes back and it starts dimming intermittently again.
Oh man. Turned headlights off and the issue went away completely. Bet this is related to me cleaning up wiring behind the dash last week.
That tells me roughly where the problem is. I will troubleshoot further when we land.
Does transmission seem to shift normal? If it does I would keep going. Either you have a loose headlight wire or you might need keypad rebuilt.
How times have changed!!
I can remember getting out of our 1957 Dodge Custom Royale Lancer and banging on the fender above the headlight after a LEO stopped me for having only one headlight operating. And it came back on!!! :)) :))
Just to eliminate it I would disconnect and reconnect the plug on the back of the selector pad.
Crank up the genset and see if the shift pad brightens up. After I did a HID conversion on headlights the shift pad would throw snake eyes occasionally when I turned them on, and had high current draw while igniting four bulbs. The cure was a new alternator.
If your headlights effect it I would expect it to be a common ground or a common power source.
Well this turned out to be silly. I fiddled with the dimmer next to the headlight switch and the symptoms went away. All it took was a couple turns back and forth.
