My iPhone had a charging port issue and I upgraded. The upgrade went smoothly until I tried to access my four Victron components: solar charge controller, BMV 712 battery monitor, smart battery sense unit that measures temperature and voltage of the battery bank and communicates with other devices, and finally the Orion 30 amp B2B charger that controls the charge of the house batteries from the alternator. After upgrading to a new phone I could not connect with any of them.
Turns out that you can only reconnect with them by resetting the default pin by entering what is called the PUK code for each unit. That menu is accessed by touching the three little dots to the right of the product in the Victron App. Victron provides a little video on how to do that, but the trick is finding that PUK code. It is printed on the device sticker that also includes the serial number and product model number. It's unique for each device and consists of twelve alpha numeric characters. If you can't find it you have to contact the seller with your proof of purchase which can then get back to you in a few weeks with the code, providing they know how to do it. The code was printed on the back of the BMV round control gauge, on the side of the heat sink of the charge controller and Orion B2B, and on the top of the Smart Battery Sense. It's a small white sticker with black letters. Beware, it's easy to misread the "5" as a "6".
Depending on how and where you have installed your components, getting a picture of this PUK code can either by a minor or royal pain in the rear. I highly recommend you record this PUK code prior to installing or sooner rather than later before stuff happens and that label on the product becomes illegible. I understand it is also printed on your original box, but in my case we don't carry empty boxes around while full timing. After entering the PUK code it will connect and ask you to enter the original pin which is six zeroes.
Thankfully my new phone takes pretty good pictures in low light and after various shots that resemble a Christmas card photo shoot with a two year old and his four year old sister hopped up on candy everything is now working.
Patrick,
I just purchased a new i-phone. I am not currently at my coach but I sure hope I don't have to jump through the hoops that you did. I guess I will find out in a few weeks.
Richard
Was this necessary because the default code had been reset and you forgot what it was? I have switched phones and added phones by just searching for bluetooth available devices and entering the code for each one.
No, it was unlike anything I have ever worked with before. I found lots of people in help forums having the same problem after switching phones.
